Focused on the 17 to 25 age group and based on a presented scenario of a campaign called "Safe or Sorry"

In today’s world, road safety is not practised by many young people. After a study was conducted by the Ministry of Transport, it was discovered that drivers of the seventeen to twenty-five age group were causing the majority of road accidents, leading to an increase in fatalities. As part of the group “Safe or Sorry” campaign, I, the road safety officer, is required to advise all drivers of this age group about road safety tips.

“Meet every need with normal speed” is a road safety slogan created with the intention of reinforcing that drivers should not exceed the speed limit when driving. According to an internet article, speeding is much more likely to be a factor in a fatal crash when the driver is in the seventeen to twenty-five age group. Driving at high speed increases the likelihood of death or severe injury among road users. Furthermore, the higher the speed, the shorter time a driver has to stop and avoid a crash. This is as a result of the fact that speeding gives less time to react.

One road safety tip specific to this age group is “Focus on driving.” This audience of drivers are attached to their phones. Subsequently, they use their phones while driving. Consequently, the possibility of a crash increases as this is a physical, visual and cognitive distraction is. According to a second online article, each time a driver writes and sends a text, his or her eyes are off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds which is enough time to drive the length of a rugby pitch.

Another road safety tip is “Do not drink and drive.” Generally, young people of the seventeen to twenty-five age group love to party and get drunk. However, they should never practise to drink and drive because they put others at risk every time they settle into a car. According to a third internet article, there should be no alcohol in a driver’s bloodstream while driving because a blood alcohol level of even 0.02 can affect a person’s vision, concentration or reaction time, all of which are significant components of driving.

There are two strategies that can be used in this presentation. Firstly, the presentation can begin with a verse of a popular song to grab the audience’s attention and set a serene atmosphere. Secondly, a well-known dancehall or reggae artiste could share his or her experience of a road accident while he or she was of the seventeen to twenty-five age group and how it affected him or her as well as he or she could explain the importance of road safety.

In encapsulation, if young people of the seventeen to twenty-five age group practise road safety, there will be less road accidents and fatalities since this age group is the cause of the majority of road accidents. Furthermore, road safety slogans and road safety tips exist to reinforce the importance of road safety. Finally, in order to grab the audience’s attention for the presentation, certain strategies must be taken.

My essay ends at the sentence before this one.

Just to make another point on the importance of road safety:

You should also know that sometimes when you feel extremely tired before driving and while driving, you need to take a break to rest before operating the vehicle or pull over or go somewhere safe to take a break to rest. When that's done, you can return to driving. I know sometimes we are in a rush to complete a task, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Remember to always get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep within every 24 hours!
