Seedcamp, one of Europe's most prominent early-stage venture capital firms, announced on Monday that it has raised $320 million for its latest fund. The new capital will allow the firm to significantly expand its presence in the United States, a move that signals a broader shift in the venture capital landscape.

Fund VII is Seedcamp's largest fund to date, doubling the $180 million it raised for Fund VI in 2023. But the firm is splitting the new capital strategically. **$220 million** is allocated for early-stage investments through Seedcamp VII, while the remaining $100 million is set aside for growth-stage, follow-on investments via a new vehicle called Select.

Why the US?

Seedcamp already has offices in New York City and Miami. Now, the firm is setting out to grow its team stateside. The goal? To connect more of its European portfolio companies to US customers and investors.

San Francisco and Silicon Valley have regained their position as a centre of gravity in recent years, and Seedcamp wants to be part of that ecosystem.

"We need to plug founders to nodes that are connective," said Reshma Sohoni, Seedcamp's co-founder and managing partner, in an interview with TechCrunch.

The firm's expansion is not about abandoning Europe. It is about building bridges. European startups often struggle to break into the US market, and Seedcamp's on-the-ground presence is meant to ease that transition.

The Thesis: First In, Early On

Seedcamp will continue its core thesis of being one of the first investors in upcoming startups, whether they are pre-product, pre-revenue, or even pre-traction. The firm is tapping its extensive network of portfolio startups and limited partners (LPs) for deal flow.

That thesis has served Seedcamp well. The firm was one of the first investors in several successful tech companies, including:

Fluidstack

Hopin

Pleo

Revolut

Synthesia

UiPath

Wise

Seedcamp now counts 12 unicorns in its portfolio of more than 550 companies and has $1 billion in assets under management.

The Investment Strategy

Seedcamp VII will invest roughly $1 million as a first check in about 100 to 120 startups, with follow-on investments in later rounds. The growth fund, Select, will invest about **$3 million to $5 million per check, following on in Series B rounds and later.

This dual-fund structure allows Seedcamp to support its portfolio companies from the earliest stages through to later-stage growth, without needing to rely on outside investors for follow-on capital.

Fund Amount Focus Typical Check Size

Seedcamp VII $220M Early-stage (pre-product to early traction) ~$1M

Select (Growth Fund) $100M Growth-stage (Series B and later) $3M–$5M

The Limited Partners

Seedcamp's backers include a mix of institutional investors and its own portfolio founders. Limited partners in Fund VII include:

British Business Bank

HarbourVest

Schroders

Sofina

Notably, 80 of Seedcamp's portfolio company founders have also pitched in as angel investors. That is a testament to the firm's reputation and the loyalty it has built among its founders.

What Seedcamp Avoids

Seedcamp will continue to invest across sectors, but Sohoni noted that the firm will steer clear of capital-intensive businesses such as mobility startups or marketplaces that require significant upfront capital to build supply or infrastructure.

"We tend to avoid capital-intensive startups because funding working capital isn't a great model on day one," Sohoni said. "We're definitely a commercial-driven investor."

Seedcamp's $320 million Fund VII is a major milestone for the firm and a sign of the growing transatlantic flow of venture capital. The firm's expansion into the US is a bet that European startups can succeed in America and that Seedcamp can help them get there.

With 12 unicorns already in its portfolio and a track record of early-stage success, Seedcamp is well-positioned to continue identifying the next generation of tech leaders.
