Russia Approves Bitcoin and XRP Transactions for Commerce, Signaling a Major Transition for BRICS Group
(BREAKING CRYPTO NEWS)

1.In September, Russia will become the initial BRICS member to make crypto transactions legal through the enactment of new laws.
2.However, Russia will keep its prohibition on using crypto for local transactions while it works on creating its own central bank digital currency, known as the Digital Ruble.
On Tuesday, July, Russia took a significant step forward by becoming the inaugural member of the BRICS group to legalize the use of cryptocurrency for trade transactions. This move comes as the nation grapples with increasing financial strain due to US sanctions, as reported by the CNF.
The State Duma of Russia's lower house of Parliament has approved a bill that officially permits businesses to engage in cross-border trade using cryptocurrencies.
"We are embarking on a historic journey in the realm of finance," Anatoly Aksakov, the head of the Duma, announced to lawmakers on Tuesday. It was noted that the legislation is set to take effect in September, with Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina confirming that the first transactions are anticipated to occur before the end of the year.
This legislation will introduce regulations for crypto mining and the circulation of various cryptocurrencies. However, the existing ban on crypto payments within the country remains in place. Nonetheless, this development could significantly enhance the international trade capabilities of the BRICS bloc, which is actively pursuing a strategy to reduce reliance on the US dollar in international transactions, as reported by CNF.
Mati Greenspan, the CEO of Quantum Economics, a firm specializing in crypto market research, believes that Russia's move towards embracing crypto trade is logical, given that bitcoin transactions are immune to censorship or blockage by any government or bank.
Previously, Russia was hesitant to grant such transactional freedom to its citizens. However, with bitcoin becoming increasingly integral to everyday commerce, the potential economic benefits of not allowing it have become too great to ignore.
Before, Russia was hesitant to grant its people the kind of transactional liberty that others enjoyed — but now, with bitcoin being so frequently utilized in everyday transactions, the potential benefits of not permitting it have become too significant to ignore.
Following the US, UK, and EU, along with nations such as Australia, Canada, and Japan, Russia was named the most sanctioned country globally, with over 16,500 sanctions collectively placed on it for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia is also moving forward with its central bank digital currency (CBDC) project, known as the Digital Ruble. The central bank has announced plans to conduct tests over the next year, with a planned launch around July 2025.
The rollout of the Digital Ruble will be phased, involving 12 other Russian banks and 600 employees. The pilot program will test essential functions such as digital Ruble transfers, usage of digital wallets, and automatic payments. However, there are concerns that the US, under President Donald Trump, might impose a ban on the development of CBDCs.
While Russia's plans for digital currencies show promise, they are facing significant challenges. Other nations are likely to scrutinize these plans more closely, with the US expected to increase its oversight of Russian crypto activities. Recent fines on crypto companies for violating sanctions highlight the complex regulatory landscape they must navigate.
Moreover, businesses that are not familiar with these technologies might be reluctant to adopt cryptocurrencies for international payments, and the digital ruble. Overcoming these obstacles is crucial for the success of Russia's digital currency initiatives.
Meanwhile, Ripple's native cryptocurrency, XRP, has seen a rapid increase of 9% in the last 24 hours, surpassing $0.65. Analysts anticipate that the price of XRP will continue to rise at least to $0.90.
