Prime Intellect, a fast-growing startup that delivers high-performance computing resources and specialized software tools, has secured $130 million in Series A funding**, valuing the company at **$1 billion. The investment marks a major milestone for the firm, which aims to shift control of artificial intelligence development from large central labs directly into the hands of businesses.

Funding and Backers

The round was led by Radical Ventures, with significant participation from strategic investors including Nvidia Ventures, Intel Capital, Dell Technologies Capital, and Iconiq. The cap table also features an impressive roster of individual investors, all founders of leading technology companies: Aravind Srinivas of Perplexity, Aaron Levie of Box, Winston Weinberg of Harvey, Jeff Wang of Cognition, and Brendan Foody of Mercor. This mix of financial, infrastructure, and industry leadership backing underscores the strong market confidence in Prime Intellect’s vision and technology.

The Mission: Democratizing AI Development

Founded in 2024, Prime Intellect was built on a clear premise: to enable organizations to train, customize, and deploy their own agentic AI systems without relying entirely on closed, third-party frontier AI providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic. Just a few years ago, this goal would have been nearly impossible for most companies, limited by the complexity of the technology and the massive computing power required.

That landscape has shifted dramatically thanks to advances in reinforcement learning, a method where models improve over time by receiving feedback: successful actions are rewarded, while mistakes are corrected. This approach allows businesses to refine AI tools specifically for their own workflows, turning general-purpose models into systems tailored to their unique operations.

However, even with these advances, the underlying infrastructure remains highly complex. Most enterprises lack the specialized engineering teams, computing capacity, and integrated frameworks needed to assemble these components into stable, production-ready applications. That is the gap Prime Intellect was created to fill.

The Platform: A Full-Stack Solution

Prime Intellect has developed what it describes as a full-stack development environment for AI agents, combining three core layers:

  • Flexible compute access: Scalable processing power optimized for both training and running intelligent systems.

  • Reinforcement learning framework: Tools that simplify the process of teaching models to perform complex, multi-step tasks.

  • Evaluation and monitoring tools: Systems to measure accuracy, reliability, and efficiency in real-world use.

The platform operates like a modular marketplace, allowing customers to select only the specific capabilities they need, rather than adopting a rigid, all-or-nothing system. This flexibility removes barriers to entry and lets companies build at their own pace.

“Others offer bits and pieces of what is needed, but Prime Intellect has stitched this together in a way that delivers frontier-level performance at a price that makes sense for businesses,” said David Katz, Partner at Radical Ventures. “They have essentially built the equivalent of a top-tier AI research lab but packaged it as a one-stop shop that any company can use.”

Early Traction and Proven Results

The value of this approach is already translating into rapid adoption and strong revenue growth. Prime Intellect has quickly reached an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million, counting prominent names such as Ramp, Zapier, and Flapping Airplanes among its early clients.

For many of these customers, the benefits are tangible. Financial technology firm Ramp, for example, used Prime Intellect’s tools to build a custom AI agent designed to search and analyze data across large spreadsheets. “The solution we built outperformed leading frontier models in terms of accuracy, while running faster and at a fraction of the cost,” said Karim Atiyeh, Co‑Founder and Co‑CEO of Ramp.

Why Enterprises Are Moving Away From Closed Models

Beyond performance and cost, a major driver of demand is a growing realization among businesses about the risks of building core operations on third‑party AI services. Companies are increasingly reluctant to share their most sensitive internal data, such as financial records, customer details, and operational strategies, with external providers, fearing a loss of control or potential misuse.

They also face practical risks: earlier this year, for instance, Anthropic discontinued its Fable model without long notice, leaving some developers scrambling to replace tools built on that platform. There is also the strategic concern that general‑purpose AI providers may eventually compete directly with their own customers by expanding into their industries.

“Companies are asking themselves: How do I know this provider won’t try to replace me later, or use my data to build a better product than my own?” Katz explained. “These risks are pushing leaders to ask a new question: How can I own my own enterprise intelligence, and build systems that stay fully under my control?”

A Vision for Independent AI

Prime Intellect Co‑Founder and CEO Vincent Weisser believes the future of AI belongs to those who can build and manage their own systems, rather than relying on a small number of centralized technology providers.

“It shouldn’t be limited to a small group of researchers in a few tech hubs who can train and shape powerful AI models,” Weisser told TechCrunch. “This capability should be accessible to every enterprise, every industry, and every nation so that innovation and control can be distributed, not concentrated in just a few hands.”

With the new funding in place, Prime Intellect plans to expand its infrastructure, refine its tools, and bring even more advanced AI development capabilities to market, helping businesses take full ownership of the intelligent systems that will power their future.
