Looking into the significance of concentrating on contributing time, energy and resources on the web, in line with Online Business in Africa and how this will thus profit Africans and Africa.

In reality, the internet is creating open doors for users to share in a revolution that is reshaping the world emphatically. This is the most brilliant open door as it does not require any form of unlawful methods but instead to use this open doors through creativity by providing useful services or solutions or information to users and thus generating long-term income.

The internet has made it possible for us to sell our goods and services with little effort. The barrier to entry into this new sector of the market is low and does not require any form of “godfatherism” or introduction by anyone to be successful, all we need is the zeal to earn.

Why Is The African Economy So Important In The New Revolution?

Using Nigeria as a case study, according to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the number of internet users in Nigeria by 2010 was estimated at 43.9 million, making Nigeria the highest internet population by country in Africa. According to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), by May of 2018, the number of Nigerians online has jumped to 103 million which is a huge leap from the 43.9 million 2010 statistic. This leap is as a result of the youthfulness of the Nigeria population as well as the urge for information.

The information age is evidenced to have influenced this acceptance of the internet, the internet revolution has created a totally different way of doing things, more and more people are going online for solutions; from news and information to social media interactions and messaging to online shopping, gaming etc.

We can relate this to the Agricultural revolution of old. Before the introduction of machines to agriculture, the sector was the highest employer of labour, but with machines agriculture became one of the lowest employer of labour, employing just about 2% of the labour force.

Today, there is a growing trend in online shopping which is fast becoming a household name in Nigeria. This is propelled by convenience, privacy, ease and mobility as the key selling points of the internet platform. However, as of today in spite of the rising popularity and penetration of the internet by Africans, less than 1 person in every 100,000 Africans has a blog or website. This is negatively low compared to the world average of 90: 100,000 people owning websites. With this less than 1:90 gap, it is evidenced that there is a huge opportunity online for Africans because Africa make up about 15% of the population of the world and provide little or no percentage of information and knowledge required by the continent. Africans are therefore losing out as they continue to consume imported information and contents, the originality of such content is in doubt while the gains that should accrue creators goes beyond the continent.

The Internet; A Market Without So Much Restrictions

The ease of starting an online business is a very important part of this article, it is pertinent to emphasise that in online business there is little or no restriction from governments or cartels who pull the shots. Most investors in Africa would agree that doing business in Africa sometimes require you to go the extra mile to succeed. In online business, all that is required is the enthusiasm to succeed, merit and quality. When a concept, product or service is accepted by users and consumers, it implies that users find it beneficial to them. As this acceptance is received, no military or political power can influence this therefore anyone can succeed no matter the background.

It’s evidenced that there are a number of occasions where even a minor with the enthusiasm to innovate, has turned successful to the point of becoming millionaires. For instance, in the case of a 12 years old who developed an app that caught the attention of Apple; An app that enables users to follow their friends Flickr account and see their photos. This type of success means one does not need to be with such tittles that are reverend in Africa and some other parts of the world; such as BSc, PhD, MSc. These titles can sometimes determine who and where you are in society. But with the internet, these titles must accompany what value you have for the users in other to be a success. This means tittle without such knowledge and value will not yield any result.

Therefore the internet has opened a new avenue that is fast, reliable and without any form of dogmatic acceptance, being that internet accepts everyone no matter the background. Africans are thereby urged to identify these opportunities on the internet and utilise them to the best of their abilities. One does not need any form of qualification to succeed online, all that is needed and required is a thinking and creative mind, a willingness to learn and succeed, a good amount of enthusiasm and a lot of hard work .
