How to update the firmware of a Linksys range extender?

Firmware update is responsible for removing the bugs from your range extender and adding new features in a device. You must update the firmware within a given period to level up the performance of the incoming Wi-fi signals. Now a user can automatically update the firmware of the Linksys range extender with the help of the “Check now” option of the myrouter.local interface.

Steps to update the firmware of a Linksys range extender:

Open a browser on the computer or laptop connected to the local network.

Type myrouter.local on the address bar of the browser and hit enter.

The default login window appears on the screen.

Type “admin” on the username tab and mention the password you set for the login window.

If you haven’t changed the default password yet, type “admin” in the password field.

Click login and you will be redirected to the default myrouter.local window.

From the main navigation panel, click on the Settings tab, then click on the Firmware update.

The firmware update page appears on the screen.

Scroll down the page and locate the Check online option and click on it.

If a new firmware is available on the screen, a dialogue box will appear on the screen prompting you to install it into the computer.

Click on the Upgrade and the installation process starts.

Note: During the installation process avoid activities such as opening a new tab, closing the browser, clicking on a hyperlink of the current browser, turning off your computer, launching a new browser and several others.

Wait for a few minutes to let the process complete.

Do not interrupt the update process by any means, it may lead to the failure of the firmware update process in the range extender.

When the process gets completed the range extender automatically reboot.

Note: If you don’t have an Internet connection, you can perform the Check online method as it requires the Internet to take action in this kind of process. You don’t require Internet in the manual process of updating the firmware but you must have already downloaded the firmware for the Linksys range extender.

How to change the Wi-fi password of a Linksys range extender?

The Wi-fi password of a range extender is utilized to allow authorized users to access the myrouter.local network. No user can access the network without typing a correct Wi-fi password in the provided field. While accessing the range extender for the first time, you need to type in the default Wireless credential on the provided field. You can access the default Wireless settings from the back of the device on its product label.

Follow the below steps to change the Wi-fi password of a Linksys range extender:

Open a browser on the computer or laptop connected to the local network.

Type myrouter.local network on the address bar of the browser.

Hit enter and the default Linksys router login appears on the screen.

Mention “admin” on the username tab and type the password you set during the setup process.

If you haven’t changed the login password type “admin” on the password field.

Both the login credentials fields are case-sensitive.

Note: Make sure you activate Caps lock before typing an uppercase letter and do vice-versa before typing a lower case letter.

Click login and the default myrouter.local appears on the screen.

Go to the Advanced tab, then select the Wireless settings page.

Scroll down the Wireless settings page and change the Network name from the SSID field.

You can change the Wi-fi password from the Network key field.

Make sure you are fulfilling all the requirements required to change the password.

If you want to create a hidden network, select the “Hide my SSID page” option.

It keeps unwanted users away from accessing the extender’s network.

Click on the Save button when all the configurations are made.

Note: The credential field of a password is case-sensitive. For example, if you assign “PASSWORD96” as the Wi-fi password and you are typing “password96” while connecting to the range extender, you will be denied from connecting to the range extender’s network.

How to log in to the Linksys range extender?

The login process is a prominent method with the help of which a user is able to connect to the web interface of the Linksys range extender. Without performing the login process, you cannot interact with various settings and features of the range extender. During the configuration process, a user can avoid the login process by configuring the range extender using the Linksys app on a mobile device.

Use a computer or a Wi-fi enabled device to connect to the extended Wi-fi network.
When the connection gets established between the router and Wi-fi enabled device, the signal LED lights solid green.
Now, launch a browser on your computer connected to the Wi-fi extended network.
Go to the address bar of a browser and type myrouter.local on it.
If you encounter an issue, type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar and hit enter.
The default Linksys extender login window appears on the screen.
Enter “admin” as the default usernames and the password you assigned during the setup process.

Now you can access and configure any feature within the Linksys range extender from the main web menu Dashboard.

Note: If a user is attempting a login process for the first time, he has to type default login credentials in the provided fields. You can find the default login credentials on the Quick setup guide and can also find them over the Internet. Once you successfully log in to the range extender you can configure various features and settings within the device.
