How To Choose a Reliable Web Host

A showdown between Liquid Web and GoDaddy: Who will come out on top?

You've got the website. Now what do you do with it?

There are plenty of options when it comes to web hosting platforms. There are the ones that entice you with cheap introductory offers that eventually increase so that you end up paying a lot more for less, and there are the popular all-in-one platforms like Wordpress and Wix that promise to make everything simple and easy.

Here's the thing with web hosting: without it, the internet as we know it doesn't exist. Imagine Facebook not being there, Nike, Twitter, Instagram, Words With Friends! None of these Websites or apps would exist without hosting and servers. None. Zilch. Goose egg.

I think we can all agree that hosting is a big deal.

So, what platform should you choose? Well, that all depends on what you plan to do with your website.

At the end of the day, you want your website to be secure, fast, and you want to get bang for your buck.

Here Is What GoDaddy Offers:

For security, they offer 24/7 monitoring and DDoS protection, but they only offer the most basic firewall for their servers. GoDaddy also offers cPanel control, as well as serving both Windows and Linux.

GoDaddy’s page load speeds are 3.16 seconds on average.

GoDaddy also offers unlimited bandwidth and 100GB to unlimited disk space.

Here Is What Liquid Web Offers:

Liquid Web has PCI compliant servers and provide advanced firewalls, DDoS protection as well as RAID protection. Liquid Web also offers VPN services in advance security suite to their customers.

Liquid Web offers 100% uptime guarantee and they have an average page load speed of 0.23 seconds.

Liquid Web offers unlimited domains, 40GB+ disk space, and 1TB-5TB Bandwidth.

Liquid Web also serves both Linux or Windows. They use the cPanel control panel for their Linux-based servers as well, and offer an equally user-friendly option for the Windows-based servers called Plesk.

I've made this super handy chart below.

Hosting Ratings

Now look, I'm not here to tell you who the winner is, that's up to you.

Everyone is going to have there list of must-have features.

I do have my own experiences with different hosting platforms. I have tried just about all of them: GoDaddy, Wordpress, BlueHost, etc.

Some have decent options, some have the basics, and some have incredibly complex setups that require you to hire someone just to make sense of it all. I'm not pointing fingers... I am just focusing on one compound word quite intensely, though.

Here Is What Your Hosting Should Provide You:

  • Security. Security is a big deal. It is their job to provide security to defend your website from viruses, hackers, and anything else that can invade your website.
  • Customer Service. Nothing makes or breaks your opinion of a service-based company more than customer service. There should be a mutual respect between both parties in this case.
  • Performance. Your hosting should be able to grow with the activity your website gets. Starting out, it's okay to go with a basic package — most people do. What happens when your website gets flooded with new business? It's your hosting capabilities that are going to determine how well your website handles it.
  • Features. Features are nice. Email service is great, Wordpress site integration is even better.
  • Price. Prices should be based on the level of benefit they provide you. Websites cost money. Business is an investment. With hosting I can think of one saying that rings true in my experience: You get what you pay for.

Whether you have a Wordpress website or you need dedicated servers for your business, you should choose what's right for your business needs.

Liquid Web is my 1# recommendation for hosting. They consistently rise above my expectations with customer service and performance. I use their Cloud VPS Hosting!

After all... Hosting is the foundation your website will rely on to work for your business, whatever that may be.
