I don't know about you but my friends call me a gadget boy as I focus on technology devices too much. As a gamer I have multiple gaming consoles. As a YouTuber I have numerous filming devices. As a mobile user, I change my phone each year trying different vendors and service providers.

Even though I have been a heavy Apple user for years, recently, my interest on Samsung devices has substantially increased as they keep innovating and offering cool solutions to their customers. I follow the tech news closely and keep my readers up to date with progress.

Just over a month ago, I noticed that Apple released the iOS 16 update, which included a few interesting features which aren't present on Samsung phones. This attracted my attention so I wanted learn more.

But now, interestingly, it seems that Samsung has borrowed a few of the iOS 16 features and is implementing them into the next One UI version. I have no clue how Apple will respond to this. Time will show.

For example, the design of some of the new additions does seem very similar to the iOS 16 version, but that's not really much to complain about as long as it works well and looks good. I decided to share my findings in this post hoping you might find them interesting.

Here are some of the new features coming with Samsung One UI 5.

1 — Routines

Routines allow you to set profiles for certain activities, for example, work mode. This will allow you to limit access to what your phone offers so that you can focus on what you’re meant to be doing.

This is very similar to iOS 16s Focus mode.

You can even customize things like which contacts can pass through, as well as set the dark or light modes in different routines.

2 — Copy & Paste Text from Images

If you’re ever in a situation in which you capture a photo of a phone number or weblink, you can now simply copy text straight from the image instead of having to memorize it while switching apps. This looks cool to me.

3 — Additional Homescreen Customisation

One UI 5 offers various different customization options for your home screen. This includes video wallpapers, clock styles, and notification pop-ups. I also find this feature intresting.

4 — Stacked Widgets

With One UI 5, you can now stack widgets of the same size on top of one another. This can really help to declutter your home screen from all the different widgets you might use. You can simply swipe between whichever widget you want to see.

5 — Bixby Text to Call

Bixby text-to-call is the unique extra feature coming with One UI 5 and is an extension of text-to-speech. This feature allows users to interact during a phone call with text instead of talking.

Your messages will be converted to sounds and be played back to whoever you’re on the phone with. I love this feature.

Additionally, their speech will be converted to text for you to read. This feature is apparently intended to be used in environments that wouldn't benefit from a traditional phone call, such as concerts and other loud venues.

I can’t really see how this is any better than just texting, but I guess we’ll have to see when this update is released. Let's stay optimistic.

    Final Thoughts

The Samsung One UI 5 beta is currently available, but I do not recommend downloading it on your daily used phone since it’s not entirely stable as of yet. I hope they improve it.

There is no set release date for this update yet. However, some people on social media believe it will either be released later this year or at the beginning of next year in the US. I remain optimistic.
