Learn Why You Should Use The Cloud

More and more, cloud storage systems are becoming the norm rather than the exception. While there certainly are valid concerns about the security of these systems, it is well worth talking about the advantages. Setting aside, for a moment, any concerns that you may have about the security of cloud-based systems, what are the advantages? What do you stand to gain from using the cloud as opposed to any other computing or storage system? Here are just a few of the advantages enjoyed by those who use the cloud.

Extra Storage

Despite any questions or concerns you may have about public cloud security, the main upshot of having these systems widely available is, essentially, to make your devices more powerful. By moving certain types of files off your devices and onto the cloud, you can free up storage space on your devices, helping them run better. Instead of having to invest in physical backup systems, external hard drives, and other supplemental measures to enhance your devices, you can simply access the cloud and put your data there. You may even be able to access more than one cloud system, essentially allowing you to back up your information in multiple locations, all from the ease of your own home office, or even your phone as you are on the go.

Syncing Across Devices

Putting your data in a cloud system means that it can be accessed from more than one device. So if you are working on something on your computer, and then you need to go to a meeting elsewhere, you can save that information to the cloud, pick up your laptop or tablet, take it to the meeting, and then access that same information seamlessly. The ability to sync across devices is an incredibly powerful and liberating tool that is only possible through the use of cloud storage and cloud technology.

Easy Collaboration

This same system allows businesses of all sizes to easily collaborate in real time from multiple locations. There are certain cloud systems that allow multiple people to modify the same document at the same time. This ability to collaborate is essential in the modern, fast paced business world. It allows for a distributed workforce to coordinate across multiple time zones with relative ease, and allows many different opinions to be expressed in the same space. For businesses that work in multiple time zones around the world, cloud technology is not a luxury but an absolute necessity.

Backup Systems

Another area where cloud technology shines is in the area of preventing data loss. Of course everyone knows that they should back up their work, and make sure to back it up in multiple locations, but accidents still happen. Adding extra steps to this process only makes mistakes more common. So if your backup procedure includes, for example, plugging in an external hard drive or logging into a secure server, that can increase the probability that a backup doesn't happen at all. Many cloud services are aware of this and will automatically backup your work as you work, preventing data loss through random chance and human error.

Peace of Mind

Ultimately, cloud technology provides peace of mind. When you know that you will have access to that extra storage, you don't have to worry about running out of space on your device. When you know that all your data is in the cloud, you know that you will be able to access it from other devices, no matter what happens to the device you're currently working on. When you know that your cloud service is periodically backing up your work, you don't have to worry about forgetting to back up that work yourself.

Of course, all that peace of mind hinges on the assurance that your data is secure and won't be leaked or lost. It is your responsibility to do due diligence when researching cloud services. However, the notion that you can do without the cloud at all is increasingly absurd in the modern world.
