Ashwin among four nominees for ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award

Candidates for the ICC Test Player of the Year award include: R. Ashwin has been shortlisted for the ICC Test Player of the Year title, where he will face off against these three players, including Joe Root; Ashwin is one of four contestants for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year prize.

In 2021, R Ashwin, one of India's greatest soccer in the longest format, reasserted his status as one of the world's best spinners. With the exception of his ball passing skills, Ashwin made a significant contribution to the bat. In eight games, the Indian spinner got 52 wickets at an average of 16.23, while hitting 337 runs at a strike rate of 28.08 and a century.

Joe Root, England's Test captain, has been shortlisted for the award after scoring 1,708 runs in 15 matches with six hundred in 2021.

Kyle Jamieson from New Zealand is the other contender, having taken 27 wickets at an average of 17.51 in five games. Kyle Jamieson, another terrific accession to the Kiwi pace battery, emerged as one of the most intriguing fast bowling prospects in international cricket in 2021.

Jamieson was the Cross factor in New Zealand's pace attack in a historic year in which they won the first ICC World Test Championship against India in the final, magnificently trying to replace and often eclipsing the achievements of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Neil Wagner. He was the best part of the show and center of the attraction, Southampton, taking seven wickets and scoring 21 runs in the first innings, earning him the player of the Match title.

The last nominee is Sri Lankan Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who scored 902 runs at 69.38 with four hundreds in seven matches.

Another great year for Karunaratne included a superb hundred against South Africa in Johannesburg, two hundred against Bangladesh in two games in Pallekele, including a double tonne, and a wonderful 100 against the West Indies Galle.

Ravichandran Ashwin may have become only the second Indian cricketer to receive the prize twice.

Only Joe Root, who has contributed with both bat and ball for England, has a chance to overtake Ashwin in the race for cricketers of the year. While Root has scored runs in practically every match this year, he also had a 5-wicket haul from England's tour to India previously this year, when the surfaces were ranking turners.

Player If Ashwin wins Cricketer of the Year in 2021, he would have been the second Indian to win the award after Virat Kohli. Each of these seven categories comprises a list of four contenders, who are the competitors who have put in the most spectacular achievements between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.

Ashwin was named Player of the Series after taking 32 wickets at 14.72 in four matches at home against England and scoring 189 runs with the bat.

On a fabric track in Southampton, the off-spinner had also taken four wickets in the ICC World Test Championship Final against New Zealand.

After losing all four Tests in England, Ashwin starred in the series at home against New Zealand, taking 14 possessions at a rate of 11.36 in matchup and scoring a pair of important points in the Kanpur test .The ICC Awards will include a total of 13 individual accolades and five Team of the Year selections for men's and women's cricket in each category.

According to the ICC. From December 28 to December 31, the candidates in each of the first seven groups will be unveiled.

It further revealed that each of the seven categories would have a selection of four finalists, consisting of players who seem to have the most influential performances between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
