2023, Apple broke its tradition of releasing a new iPad model annually, leaving us without any new iPad releases since 2022. The absence of new iPads last year hints at significant changes coming to the next generation of iPad models, which are rumored to debut in 2024. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, new iPads could potentially be unveiled as early as March this year.

The upcoming iPad lineup for 2024 is expected to bring major enhancements, especially to the iPad Pro, which is Apple's premium tablet offering. The next iPad Pro is anticipated to introduce substantial upgrades that could shape the future of iPads.

In 2022, Apple introduced the 10th-generation iPad with a front-facing camera repositioned to landscape orientation, enhancing the user experience during video calls. Rumors suggest that this camera placement change might also be implemented in the iPad Pro, potentially leading to a new docking position for the Apple Pencil due to wireless charging compatibility.

Moreover, the next iPad Pro models are likely to feature an OLED display, offering improved color accuracy, contrast, and potentially better battery efficiency compared to the current LCD and mini-LED displays. Slimmer bezels around the screen could result in a slight increase in display size for both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, further distinguishing the Pro lineup from other iPad models.

Currently, the iPad Pro is powered by Apple's in-house M2 chip. However, for the next-generation iPad Pros, we can expect to see the M3 chip and a potential increase in storage capacity to 4TB. To maintain the existing five-tier system (128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB), Apple may start the base storage option at 256GB instead of 128GB.

These are the major changes that we can be certain Apple will make to the iPad Pro. There are also other possibilities, such as a new four-pin connector on the top and bottom edges, separate from the Smart Connector, as well as the inclusion of MagSafe wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, a redesigned Magic Keyboard, and a new third-generation Apple Pencil.

If all of these upgrades are true, it would likely result in a higher starting price for the iPad Pro.

On the other hand, the iPad Air has been a popular choice for many due to its affordability and inclusion of most "pro" features found in Apple's higher-end iPad Pros. This year, Apple may introduce another "pro" feature to the iPad Air by offering a larger size.

Reports suggest that Apple is considering launching a 12.9-inch iPad Air alongside the current 10.9-inch model. This move would make sense if Apple plans to equip the iPad Pros with OLED displays, as the iPad Air could provide a larger size option while still utilizing an LCD display to keep costs down.

Apart from the addition of a larger model, there haven't been any other rumored design changes for the next-generation iPad Air. It is likely to retain the Touch ID sensor in the top button, with Face ID remaining exclusive to the iPad Pro.

The price of a 12.9-inch iPad Air would likely fall between that of the 10.9-inch iPad Air and the 11-inch iPad Pro.
