Apple MagSafe Wallet Review and Cheap Alternatives

Several months ago Apple released a somewhat unique Smartphone case specially designed for their phones. There are lots of cases with card holders in the world but Apple decided to take a totally new approach on cases with card holders and the result was this. In this article I am going to talk about this new case, named Apple Leather Wallet and what is good and bad about it. As always I will show you an affordable alternative for the original item.

What is this Apple Leather Wallet?

This case is specially designed for iPhone 12, Pro, Pro Max and Mini by Apple themselves. This case has a small MagSafe wallet attached to it. As the name clearly says the wallet sticks with the case and the phone using a magnet. You can use this wallet to put your most important cards and carry it with your phone. The case is currently available in four different colors and those are Black, Saddle Brown, California Poppy and Baltic Blue.

This case is like all the other high end cases out there in the market. It has precise cut-outs and it feels very soft in the hand. Apple has used the best quality European leather to finish their phone case and the wallet.

Let’s take a look at the wallet…

You can even use this wallet without the case but it looks bit odd when you do that. Also, you can use this wallet with another case which isn’t an Apple Leather Wallet case but it has to be really thin otherwise the magnet will not work properly. The wallet can hold up to 3 cards maximum (depends of the thickness of the cards you are using). When attached, the iPhone will notify you with a small animation and a sound. After it is attached to the phone it stays on without any problems but can be removed with a simple movement. To be honest it feels very strange and bulky when the wallet is on (specially there are cards in it). I think you will be able to get on with it with use but at first it is a really weird experience.

When the wallet and the cards are on you may have difficulties carrying it around. You can’t just put the phone into your pocket, you have to be really careful or else the wallet will detach from the case. If you are a person that wears very tight trousers you can’t put this into your pocket easily. You have to put some extra effort to it and if you are a person that carries your smartphone in your hand always (do people do that?) then this is not a problem for you, but be careful the wallet reduces the grip with your hand a bit.

When you have to take the cards out you also have to take off the wallet from the phone. The wallet has a small cut in it so you can slide the card with your finger easily. Unfortunately, that cut is in the inside of the wallet where the magnet is so you can’t use your finger to slide the cards out the wallet when the wallet is attached to the phone. So taking off the wallet is a must when you have to use the cards which is actually a bit annoying procedure.

The price of this Apple Leather Wallet with MagSafe is considerably high (of course it is an Apple product, what else do you expect?). There are numerous items that can be used as an alternative for this item but some of them are real failures while some of them aren’t. So it is my responsibility to recommend you some of the best alternatives available in the market.

This Vibeside card holder is a quiet good alternative for the Apple Leather Wallet. You can afford this for less than half price of the original item. This is ONLY the wallet and DOES NOT include a smartphone case. So you have to buy a case separately or use the wallet without a case. The case is made from synthetic PU leather (Polyurethane). Unlike the Apple Leather Wallet this has two separate pockets that can hold two cards in each (four cards in total). If you decide to put four cards in the wallet you should be prepared to experience considerable amount of bulkiness. Vibeside wallet comes in five different colors and those are Black, Black-Camel, Navy Blue, Pink Blush and Brown. The magnet is quite stronger than the original Apple case so it can hold the weight of the four cards. Everything else is similar to the original Apple Leather Wallet. This is probably the best alternative you can spend your money on.

SUPERONE MagSafe Wallet

Made with genuine leather SUPERONE wallet works exactly like the original item. It can bear 2 or 3 cards in it. You can use this with an original MagSafe case or without it. The magnet works same as the original item. So I’d say this is an Apple Wallet but under a different brand name and cheaper than the original. Keep in mind that this is ONLY the wallet and DOES NOT include a case. I don’t recommend using this with cases other than the original MagSafe case because the original MagSafe case has magnets inside it which helps to hold the wallet tightly. Using a third party case that doesn’t include magnets or include weaker magnets will cause this wallet to fall off pretty easily. This wallet is only available in Black and Blue colors.
