India is a diverse country located in the South-Eastern part of Asia. It is the second-most populous country in the world & it has a potential market to launch and grow new technology in the field of the internet. When the most prominent countries in the world adopted the advanced 5G technology, India is still using 4G technology. Of course, there is no doubt that 4G technology has shown its value and emerge graciously in India. Especially during the time of the pandemic but at the same time, it has also increased the cyber appetite of its consumers. In the past, its consumers used to browse important data and documents only on the internet. The demand for videos w less due to which neither the online social influences were known to the world nor about digital content creators. The advancement in the field of the internet gave demand for more innovative online content, due to which many social media influencers got recognized online. Though, this is beginning but also an excellent example to the lawmakers of the country regarding the advancement and demand of the internet for the future generations in India.

History of internet technology in India

Internet got introduced in 1986, but it got available to the public in 1995 i.e. it took a decade for people of India to get public access to the internet through state-owned company VSNL( Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited). Though it had connectivity issues but still gained widespread popularity in India at the time. In 2004, the Indian government at that time formulated a broadband policy, and the broadband sector grew from there. In the year 2010, 3G Technology was introduced which was soon dominated by 4G technology and began functioning fully from the year 2014.

Psychology of Indian society over internet

When the internet was introduced in India and was available to the public in 1995, Indians welcomed it at the time and within six months of its operation, state-owned company VSNL which was providing internet managed to acquire over more than 10000 subscribers. Up to 2005, internet was only used to send emails or to search some information online but slowly things started changing with the introduction of YouTube, online games, and other online browsing apps. Due to this, people started using the internet for different purposes but unfortunately, the internet data-consuming appetite of Indians was less as compared to the other countries where 5G and 4G Technologies were already introduced. Moreover, there were also other reasons for less data consumption, mostly might be the high internet cost at that time but now things have changed drastically. Now internet prices are not only low rather optimized due to which people are opting for an internet network which has faster speed too. After the introduction of 4G technology in India, the value of internet has changed. Now it has multiple purposes; some use it for education, some for networking, some for entertainment, and many are working through the internet. Once upon a time when Indians didn't rely too much on the internet, today become totally dependent on it. I am not pointing that it is bad, rather implying the effect of the internet on people.

Why 5G technology is more necessary than ever?

In India, 4G technology is fast but still slow when compared to 5G Technology, now many companies adopted 5G Technologies. In the current generation where data can be used as asset countries with fast internet services are moving forward and developing the economy by innovating new things which is compatible with fast internet. On the other hand, India is still struggling to maintain proper internet connectivity in remote areas. When 5G Technology will be available to people, everything will change because of its promise for proper and faster connectivity.

The major sector which will benefit most will be the IoT sector. Since the IoT sector is still a smaller market in India due to its connectivity issue but it will be solved with the help of technology.

Challenges to 5G technology in India

Why 5G technology is not available in India yet? Are there any reasons? yes of course. First will be the impact of the covid 19 pandemic. when it hit last year at the time talks about the deployment of 5G technology was there on the table but unfortunately due to lockdown, it got postponed to the year 2021. This year government allowed carry out 5G trials at the urban, suburban, and rural levels. Since the technology is in the testing phase government cannot implement 5G Technology immediately after testing. First, it will study and analyze the report and then cross-check it. When the reports get passed then the bid for the 5G spectrum begins. At the same time, 5G towers also need to be constructed which is quite challenging considering the short period and it seems like 5G Technology won't be available until early 2022. Moreover, many environmentalists also started protesting against 5G Technologies paying that it might expose animals and birds to radiation. A few months back, Ms. Juhi Chawla filed a petition at Delhi High Court against the implementation of 5G Technology though she lost the case and received a fine of Rs 200000 for wasting the court's time but still it is an example which resembles that there are some sections in the society who are reluctant to welcome 5G technology openly. It will be better if they educate themselves to understand the pros and cons of particular technology when many experts came forward to explain the working of IT technologies after that incident so that doubts among the people will be clear.

In 2020, Reliance Jio promised that it will introduce 5G technology in the second half of 2021. Not only that other companies like Bharti Airtel made claims to start 5G services soon as pilot project in some cities. If it becomes possible then it will be one of the prominent steps towards a bright future in the field of the Internet.
