6 Things You Should Not Do Or Post On Social Media
Be aware before clicking 'Post'
Social media apps remain an irreplaceable part of our lives now. From Facebook to Snapchat, we switch from one app to another at least 20 times a day. Being on these apps and connecting with the world by the touch of your fingertips is great, but sometimes we spill the beans. So how to avoid this digital mess from happening? Well, keep in mind that you do not do these 6 things on social media.
1. Do Not Share Data Related To Your Personal Security: We all love posting about our happy moments, don't we? But at times, we accidentally showcase information like our birthdate, address, telephone numbers, etc. How? Well, you might mention the locality you live in, in one of your pictures, or just innocently write down your contact details in your stories while trying to connect with people or spreading a word about something. These pieces of information make it easy for a hacker or a determined attacker to purloin your identity.
2. Never Upload Pictures While You Are On A Holiday: Okay, I know this sounds dull but think it in this way. Sharing details about travel plans and uploading real-time stories and posts can give a potential threat, green signal to do something wrong while you are gone. Our social media has a lot of people who know us personally, and some of them even know where we live. While we might consider them as harmless friends, we never perceive what they truly capable of. Knowing that you are miles away, they can burgle your house and steal your stuff, or can even utilize it for some other activities behind your back.
3. Do Not Post Embarrassing Photos Of Others: Posting goofy and humorous pictures of your family and friends might seem like a harmless act. However, these unflattering photos give the wrong impression of you or your friends to the people who run across your profile. It also becomes easy for such photos to be shared and go viral, making your loved one a laughingstock.
4. Sharing Photos Of Your Or Other People's Kids Is A Bad Idea: This world is filled with twisted-minded people and the internet remain their new hub to commit a crime. Uploading your kids or other people's kids' photographs makes it easy for digitally active criminals like kidnappers and paedophiles to track down these kids and make them their victim.
5. Never Share Your Negative Viewpoints About Your Job And Company: Even after having a frustrating day at the office, it is not a good idea to complain or post negatively about your workplace or your job. This will not only make your unemployed or underemployed friends think that you are ungrateful for the job that you have bagged, but it can also get you into trouble with your employer, who may find your post in his/her own feed or through another fellow employee of yours.
6. Do Not Share Other People's Big News Before Them: Be it your best cousin’s engagement, a friend’s pregnancy or your little sister's acceptance to the company of her dreams, it is never advisable to be the first to announce other people’s big news on your social media. By doing this you not only create an awkward situation and take control of someone else’s timeline, but you also share something that the other person might want to keep offline. It is good to be considerate and check whether the person in question has conveyed anything about that big news before blabbing to your network about it.
Even if you think you have your social media privacy settings locked down, it is, however, challenging controlling where your posts end up. This makes it necessary to be cautious about what you place on the internet. The worldwide web remains an uncertain place, make sure you do not get caught in it like a fly.
