Raising healthy kids is one of the most difficult jobs anyone can do. It’s a 24/7 job and it never stops. There are so many different things that go into parenting, from the food your children eat to how to keep them entertained, and there is no one way to do it right.

In case you’re a new parent, here are some parenting tips to raise healthy kids! Read on!

1. Visit a chiropractor for children

A chiropractor for children is a health practitioner who focuses on addressing spine and joint health issues. They are trained to provide ongoing care for your musculoskeletal health.

According to The Back Clinic: “paediatric chiropractors often help to improve nervous system health and spinal function in children while addressing a range of health concerns.”

Here are some musculoskeletal concerns a chiropractor may help address:

  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • some cases of headaches
  • posture.
  • Some approaches may include spinal manipulation and soft tissue therapy.

2. Make fruits and vegetables a part of their meals

As a parent, you might have heard that eating fruits and vegetables per day is good. Unfortunately, this alone might not persuade children who are given the option to eat, say, broccoli.

They might need to be taught to enjoy fruits and vegetables. You can try to offer the same type of vegetable for familiarity purposes a few times. You can also present different options as to how they are cooked.

3. Encourage a fixed bed time routine

It is important to sleep on time because it helps your kids be healthy. Sleep deprivation may lead to many health problems. When you miss out on sleep, you won’t feel as energised as you should be the next day.

It is also important to sleep on time because it will help your kids be more productive at school. When you don't get enough sleep, your brain can't function properly and it might be harder to concentrate.

4. Buy them a helmet

Make sure your kids wear helmets whenever they ride anything with wheels, and always wear one yourself.

Children might complain that wearing a helmet is uncomfortable. Here's how to tell if it's the right size: it should sit two fingers' width above the brows and not slide around. Tighten the chin strap until it fits snugly; no more than one finger should be able to fit under the strap.

The helmet should pull down on your child's head. Adjust the left and right straps to form a Y below the ears.

5. Apply sunscreen daily (especially when they’re outdoors)

Sunscreen is important because it blocks the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation that can cause skin damage. It is important to wear sunscreen every day, even when it is cloudy.

According to the Cancer Council: “In 2012, the Therapeutic Goods Administration announced a new standard for sunscreens sold in Australia, increasing the maximum sun protection factor from SPF30+ to SPF50+.”

Sunscreen should be applied 20 minutes before going outside and reapplied every two hours or after swimming or when your child sweats.

Wrap up

Raising your kids can be challenging and overwhelming. The good news is that there are many parenting tips out there to help you succeed. To make sure your children are healthy, take them to the doctor, prepare healthy meals, practise good sleeping habits, provide a helmet for riding, and buy sunscreen.

These are just five tips to get you started but of course, you will encounter more. You might want to try and see which ones work well for you and your kids!
