The United States has led the global landscape in technology innovation since the end of World War Two. After all, they created digital computing machines that helped send astronauts into space. Businesses were one of the original sectors to bring in this technology.

Unfortunately, some companies still work with hardware and software from the "prehistoric age." Thus, they run into regular problems that reduce productivity. In turn, both employees and customers experience dissatisfaction. It shouldn't be this way for your business. There are some basic ways to repair technological issues. Here are 5 common IT problems and how to fix them.

1. Lack of Technological Experience

A big problem for a business is the lack of technological experience among the team that handles its hardware and software. Much of the time it relates to turnaround. By the time an employee gets into the groove of an operation, they leave the company. As a result, a new person must be hired, and the process starts over again.

The fix for this is to bring in an outside company. For instance, you could hire a New York City managed IT services provider to help. These companies have a staff of subject matter experts on a variety of topics. Thus, if one of them isn't able to find a solution to your problem another individual probably has the needed answer.

2. Slow Internet Connection

Unfortunately, advancements in technology increase our reliance on it. So, when something like a slow internet connection occurs we feel helpless. Don't fear, because there are a few ways to fix it.

First, reboot the modem or router in your office. Both of these should be connected to a firewall. It's best to reboot that as well to clear out any errors. Reboot your computer as the last step in this process.

If these resets don't work, then check to see if someone on the network is uploading or download a large amount of data. Huge information dumps on a connection that is already spotty can slow it to a crawl. Should the above fixes not resolve the issue, then the next thing to do is contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You can find out from them if there are general connectivity issues and the estimated time it will take to fix them.

3. Printer Problems

Despite technology advancements, printers still have issues. The most common of these are paper jams and the inability to send a job to the device. The fix for the first problem is fairly simple. Normally, the printer shows where the paper jam is on its screen. Follow the graphics and read the user manual to clear it up. The solution related to the inability to print is somewhat more complicated. However, most of the time it's related to a network connection. Either the computer sending the job or the printer is not linked to send or receive the data. Check connections on both sides to determine if there's a communication issue.

4. Deletion of Critical Files

There's a good chance your heart leaps into your throat when you accidentally delete important files. Especially if you worked hard on them and they're due for an important project. The good news is these files tend not to be gone forever.

The first place to look is in your systems Trash or Recycle Bin. If you didn't ask for them to be permanently deleted the files should be there. If not, check to see if your system has the ability to restore old files from previous saves. If neither of these solutions works, then find out if your IT team backed them up. Regardless of the solution, always ensure you back up these files in multiple places.

5. Slow System Performance

Yes, your system can be slowed by a poor network connection. However, if you aren't on the internet, then there's something else going on. Normally, a review of your Task Manager can show what processes are taking up the most CPU time or memory. If it's hard to get to this application, then do a soft or hard reboot to clear the system of any quirks. Hopefully, the quintet of common IT problems and how to fix them help you in the future.
