If you have just started your data science career, you may be thinking — what is the most efficient way in which I can learn what I need? Udemy and Coursera online courses are of course what comes through most people’s minds, along with reading some books or articles on this subject. But all of that doesn’t give you any accreditation and doesn’t help with your CV.

In this article, I will let you know about the top 3 accredited courses that will give you great knowledge in data science, while also making you look good in the eyes of employers. Even more, I will place them in the order I believe it’s best to go through them.

#1 IBM Data Science Professional Certificate

This data science course is the best if you are a beginner and don’t have any funds to invest in certification. It is offered for free by IBM on Coursera, and it will give you the knowledge and certification you need to make it as an intern in data science. It will also grow your belief in your own strength and intelligence if you finish it since it is offered by an important corporation.

This course will walk you through a beginner-friendly introduction to data science, machine learning, python, and SQL. Basically, you will learn all of the skills that are usually required in an entry-level job interview in data science. You will learn coding, machine learning algorithms, and much more!

I highly recommend you start with this one if you are a beginner since it’s free and you can do it at your own phase. The recommended duration of the course is 3 months, as suggested by the creators. #2 Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate

Another course from a great corporation, the Azure data science course will teach you all you need to know about data science. Some things may overlap with the IBM course, but it wouldn’t hurt to go over them twice, for better understanding. However, the course is much more advanced than the previous one — but it’s a good thing I told you to do the IBM course before, right?!

This course will also help you learn how to run your trained model on their Azure cloud infrastructure. Knowing how to run your models on the cloud and how to understand and manage the costs of training are absolutely critical for any seasoned data scientist. This skill is required in pretty much all jobs in which you train deep-learning models. This is because you can’t really run any huge neural network on your own hardware unless you put in a big initial investment.

This course will get you started on your cloud journey while also giving you important insights into data science and machine learning. You can do this course for free, or pay an instructor to teach you. After you finish it you have to perform well in a single exam, and then you will be Azure certified by Microsoft. #3 DASCA’s Senior Data Scientist certification

Once you have gone through the previous 2, here comes the hard part. This course is made by the Data Science Council of America. You can tell by the name, that it is a big deal.

In this course, you will learn the most advanced concepts in data science along the way. You will also practice using real-world examples. They mention that this course is designed for professionals with over 4+ years of experience, so you can expect a bumpy road with lots of hard things to learn. But in the end, it will be worth it.

If you get this certification you can basically apply for a Senior Data Scientist job, which pays $134,998 per year. Pretty worth the hassle, don’t you think?

This certification is not free, but costs around $775 to get started. It will give you the state of the art knowledge in data science. Most likely, it will provide you with a high-paying job for the rest of your life. So, after you take the 2 previous courses, if you are feeling daring, start this course. Just don’t expect it to be easy!
