Deception From Inception
A poem about the stages of narcissistic abuse
He finds you
And blinds you
With dark magic
Showers you with attention
Undying affection
But what are his intentions
When he mentions
A future so bright
Despite
The fact you had just met
Yet
He intensely pursues
And slyly subdues
Your mind and soul
To harness control
Masquerading as a soulmate
But just wait
He suddenly changes his beat
Pulls the rug out from under your feet
In this new song
Everything you do is wrong
You sob, longing to know
Where did the love go
Confused and sad
Grappling for what you once had
Missing his warm acclaim
Wanting to rekindle the flame
But instead, it gets worse
With each verse
Never gets better
You become a permanent debtor
Used, devalued, and abused
Emotionally fused
To your captor
He discards you in the final chapter
Then hoovers you back in
He is under your skin
You forgive
Only to relive
The nightmare
You’re right back where you were
Everything becomes a blur
He is no longer your white knight
But rather a parasite
Hungry for supply
Sucking you dry
‘Til you’re empty and weak
Life becomes bleak
Heart battered and bruised
Playing a game you always lose
Find the strength to leave
Let go, grieve
Don’t text, don’t call
Be done, once and for all
Love shouldn’t feel like war
You truly deserve so much more
