Anne Girl
Spending every Summer and Thanksgiving visiting my extended family in Prince Edward Island, Anne of Green Gables was unavoidable. The spunky little redheaded orphan is basically a provincial symbol – like the lady’s slipper flower, the red oak tree, or the rust-colored soil that lines the shore and roadsides. Some Islanders embrace her, others are indifferent to what they might see as another part of the all-too-important tourism industry. But for me? As Anne herself would have put it, she and I are Kindred Spirits.

Little Witch, Little Witch
Do you remember reading the book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” in elementary school? It was something of a staple in mine. I don’t think I could even come close to figuring out how many times that book was read to us in Primary and Grade One. Honestly, for someone who was consistently at a reading level a grade or two higher than the grade she was in, it was kind of boring. I can appreciate the rhythm of it and the artful illustrations now, as an adult, but little me got tired of it very quickly.

Out Of The Looking GlassTop Story - September 2023
The first mirror was an antique, something that Miriam had found when she first moved into this house, covered up by a sheet and thick layer of dust. The second mirror was from Ikea. Brand new, very minimalist, nothing to stand out next to the ornate, hand-carved frame of the antique. Which, of course, was the entire point. The idea for the piece had seemed to spring to Miriam’s mind as soon as she had found the old mirror. The old reflecting the new, the past contrasting with the present and vice versa. If she could get the angles right, it would make for some great photographs.

Who I Could Have Been
What might my profession be if I had a chance to be born in another era? This should be an easy question for me. I’ve always been a bit of a history nerd, entirely fascinated by the lives of the people who lived before me. Books like Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Little House on the Prairie, the entire Dear Canada series, and anything by Jane Austen have long been some of my favorites. As a child, I was always dressing up and pretending like I was the protagonist of these books, living out their lives decades or centuries before I was ever born.

Solo Heist
Getting to the vault was easy. Sabrina’s forging skills weren’t quite up to Odette’s level, but they were passable enough to get her through the door. A little charm to maneuver her way through the event space, a little stealth to slip away, and a little finesse to get past the lock and –

Soundtrack Of My Life
Music has always been an influential force in my life. I love to sing, I love to play instruments, I love to dance, and I love the way it can be used as a storytelling medium. Musical scores and movie soundtracks fascinate me. The way songs are picked, written, and curated in such a way that conveys the emotions and trajectory of the narrative is an art form in and of itself. Making playlists for TTRPG characters, writing projects, or even just different moods and stages of life to provide inspiration and energy has become something of a hobby for me as well as an essential part of my creative process.
