Getting to the vault was easy. Sabrina’s forging skills weren’t quite up to Odette’s level, but they were passable enough to get her through the door. A little charm to maneuver her way through the event space, a little stealth to slip away, and a little finesse to get past the lock and –

Why was the safe empty?

As if on cue, Sabrina’s phone dinged with Odette’s familiar ringtone.

“I’m a little busy, Darling.”

“Oh, I don’t think you are,” Odette replied. “I assume you’ve realized that you’ve lost your prize?”

“How did you –?”

“Because I have the jewels already, Sabrina.” Odette was both exasperated and smug. Sabrina scowled, carefully closing the door of the safe behind her as Odette continued. “You really should have waited for the rest of us.”

Silence. Sabrina turned to make her way out of the building before anyone could see or hear her.

“Have I mentioned how much of a stubborn narcissist you are lately?”

She had. Sabrina stayed silent.

“I love you.”

Sabrina sighed. “I love you, too. You’ve earned your gloating. I’ll see you at home.”

I mean... they both won in a way anyways? hahaha

  • Kelsey, you did an outstanding job with this. You packed a lot into a very short amount of words. What's great is you kept the language minimal but still interesting. You guys can give us a bit of character development which made the story even more thrilling. This is one of the best things I have read today. Great work.

I like this, two competing but romantically involved thieves. It's cute and funny.
