I Want Adventure In That Great Wide Somewhere
“What? That’s so cool. But…why?” Every time someone has asked me “why?” over the last two months, I’ve had some really great answers. Answers that were honest, but also very specificto the needs of each person that asked me – what they value, what they understand, how they think – because that’s something I’m good at. I’m great at editing my life to make it more palatable for those around me. Less great at making it palatable for myself.
Laura MillerPublished 7 years ago in Wander3 Things I Wish I Did When I Traveled to China
When I was 15 years old, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to China. I had taken Mandarin Chinese as my foreign language of choice in middle and high school, and my school offered the trip. I was able to experience the cities of Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai all in about one week! It was definitely the trip of a lifetime.
Mickey KyanPublished 7 years ago in Wander5 Ways to Get Through a Long Haul Flight
It will not be wrong to claim that only a few people enjoy long-haul international flights, if any. Being confined to an airborne, metal carrier for hours on end can take a toll on even the most patient person. Unless you are travelling in the lap of luxury, long haul flights can be uncomfortable and boring.
Mohammed KhanPublished 7 years ago in WanderFall in Love with London
London has always been a huge tourist destination in Western Europe. It is a city that has been featured hundreds of times in both film and TV. London is a place that anybody can visualize and tell you at least one monument that resides there. However, you can't truly understand the city until you have touched it, felt it, and of course seen it for yourself.
Rachel (Queen Wanderlust) 👑Published 7 years ago in WanderNever Visit a German Horse Farm in December (Episode 1)
So I decided to go and work on a German horse farm in December. I had several reasons for doing so — not least of which was the desire to remove myself very thoroughly from all possibility of having to get involved with Christmas that year. I justified the decision very well, I thought. My reasoning was excellent and my resolve was rock solid. Not a single furrowed brow from any of my friends or acquaintances could sway me. I swept all potential obstacles aside and was so determined to escape Christmas that even a strength-sapping cough at the tail end of a two-week cold bug wasn't enough to stop me from embarking on my incredibly well-planned adventure.

The bus driver is smoking. There are no passengers on the bus; it’s not scheduled to leave for another ten minutes. The window is open beside him, the smoke curling in the warm breeze. It’s not even eight in the morning, and already the sun is pounding the cracked dirt and hot asphalt, the sky as fiercely blue as it was yesterday, as it will be tomorrow. Yesterday, a fire swept over the hills, visible from our neighbour’s patio, and we watched planes buzz overhead, dropping precious water in bright curtains while the tiny figures of men in orange jackets struggled with heavy hoses.

Richard OwensPublished 7 years ago in WanderHow I Decided to Hike the Pacific Crest Trail
The first time I had ever experienced camping, I was six years old. I was with my family and we stayed at a state park somewhere below Houston, Texas. We played football, climbed trees, made s'mores, and slept in a gigantic seven person tent. In the mornings, I would steal Pop Tarts out of the trunk and drink cold Gatorade from an ice cooler. If we had to use the bathroom, no worries! The fully air-conditioned bathroom of the service center was a car ride away. That was what camping was to me, in the summer of my sixth year of existence.
Niche VeraldiPublished 7 years ago in WanderHave You Ever Had Your Fortune Told on Your Travels?
The queue was long and disorderly which made me more anxious. The monk on the other side of the counter, dressed in his traditional orange robe, was solemnly taking the thin, pink pieces of paper given to him by the over-excited audience, carefully opening them, ratcheting up the suspense, then whisper something to his assistant who would translate it into English to the bearer of the message who would either beam with delight, look confused, or just staggered…

"The problem with Serbia," my friend Danilo told me, smiling over his beer, "is that here you know everything, but you can do nothing." I couldn't argue with him — six weeks before the fall of Milosevic, Danilo had only this to go on: he made short films, he read Noam Chomsky, he knew the names of obscure American comic-book writers, and last year his grade-school crush had her head blown off by a NATO bomb.
What It Means to be Canadian
What do you think makes you a Canadian? Is it about just living in the country? Owning a passport that declares so? Root for the Maple Leaf’s next game? Even being a fan of hockey for that matter? Does embracing the cold weather or surviving it make you any more Canadian than the next guy? How about all those “Eh’s” at the end of each sentence? Or perhaps, it is something much more relevant than some sort of physical or arbitrary element? Truth is, identifying as Canadian means more than those preconceived ideas that one assumes. It is a personal belief defined by your own pride, love, and appreciation of this country’s ethics.
