Rubber and pepper
Bullets designed to deter
But we keep pushing
◇
Teargas and batons
To choke and beat us away
Won't break our spirits
◇
Professors and staff
Scream do not hurt our students
But you keep going
◇
And we are still here
Protests for innocent lives
Crying our demands
◇
We cannot just watch
Now nearly forty thousand
Die while complicit
◇
So we shout and cheer
For you to disclose, divest
Leave your excuses
◇
So call the police
On our peaceful encampments
We will not stop till
◇
GAZA IS FREE.
◇
Free Palestine.
Long live the student intifada.
In our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians.
This is an issue that deserves much more attention. I have been wanting to create something addressing the student encampments on campuses across North America. After reading Kenny Penn's "From the River to the Sea," I felt greatly inspired.
Students have been asking their universities and institutions to divest from companies that support the ongoing genocide in Palestine. This is a small part of the fight, but one that has shown the true colours and hypocrisy of many university presidents/administrators, as they promote freedom and equality, with countless land acknowledgments, while remaining complicit in ethnic cleansing.
These protests have been peaceful, nonviolent, and safe, but have been met with police brutality and violence.
Gaza is currently closed off from the outside world. Israel has closed its border into Egypt. Rafah was the last real safe zone, and now it is being bombed, with 1.4 million people seeking refuge there.
May God grant them mercy and ease their pain.
