I was born in 1990. In May, smack dab early mid-year. I am quite LITERALLY the definition of a '90's' kid. I don't remember a lot of commercials from when I was younger, but I do know that growing up women in media were photoshopped, sculpted, and molded to be Barbie perfect.

Horror and Hope
I am late entering this challenge, because I thought long and hard which woman has inspired me the most. I chose this person because I genuinely believe she deserves recognition for her outstanding skills and character in the face of adversity: Stanislawa Leszczyńska. She was a Polish midwife who was incarcerated in Auschwitz in 1943. She attended many births during that time. 3,000 babies were born under her care.
Sam The Doula (Blooming Miracle)Published 3 months ago in Viva Women Know Hockey, Stop Pretending They Don't
Gather 'round, readers! Today is International Women's Day, and I have a story to tell. In 2014, I watched and followed the hockey games from that year's Winter Olympics. I watched the US men's team reach the semifinals of the tournament, which are the medal rounds. We faced Canada. We lost to Canada, because of course we do. So we had to play for Bronze. We faced off against Finland. Finland beat us like we stole something. A 6-0 loss in the Bronze Medal Game, while Canada defeated Sweden to get the Gold.

I remember going to get Chinese food after church every Sunday as a kid and I would obsess over the fact that my animal according to the Chinese calendar was the dragon. As a little girl, I remember thinking I was special because I was the most mystic of all the creatures! Anyone born in the year of 1988 was the year of the dragon, and so an animal represents each new year. The order of the animal signs is fixed, with the dragon being the fifth in the cycle, therefore the “Year of the Dragon” is 2024.
Natasha CollazoPublished 3 months ago in VivaWhat Is A Woman?
When I see videos like the one below with Charlie Kirk persistently asking college students one question, "What is a woman?" and students stumbling to answer or seemingly not able to give him an answer that would satisfy his inquisitive mind, as a teacher I'm baffled.

I am angry. This week I was Threading through Threads and came across a post from a woman that said, among other things: "How can I make my mother stop coloring her hair and just go grey? She's 62 and not fooling anyone; she and her friends are old and it's time that she acts her age."

The detrimental impact of aesthetic norms on emotional wellness
What are beauty standards and where do they stem from? Beauty standards are cultural beliefs that influence social power and dictate how individuals should look to be socially accepted. These standards encompass physical features like facial appearance, skin, and body shape, and can be either innate or alterable. Terms like "attractive," "pretty," and "good looking" are used to describe adherence to these standards. It can be challenging to determine which features can be changed and which cannot. Not conforming to societal beauty standards by refusing to alter one's appearance is often viewed as a moral failure. For instance, wearing makeup is not a natural or biological choice, but rather influenced by current trends.

The call came early. On a Tuesday morning. The sun barely peeking through the curtains of my apartment. The sounds of New York creeping in. It was her sister. Voice thin and brittle like a dried leaf crushed underfoot.

I'm Proud of You
Dear Empress, In case no one has told you lately, I’m so fucking proud of you! Look at you, Empress. Putting yourself first for once. Putting in the time for self care, taking care of your body and your mind. Learning how to construct boundaries after so many years of people pleasing and actually enforcing them. Finally realizing your worth and expecting others to act accordingly. Refusing to settle for the bare minimum. That's a long road from where you have started.

Why Free Pads for Periods are Essential
In a world where menstrual hygiene is often shrouded in stigma and financial constraints, the provision of free pads for periods emerges as a vital necessity. Menstruation, a natural bodily process, should not be a barrier to health, education, or dignity. Yet, for many individuals worldwide, access to menstrual hygiene products remains a significant challenge. Addressing this issue goes beyond providing a basic necessity; it's about upholding fundamental human rights and fostering gender equality.
