In the Interviews I do through Podcasts, Magazine Articles, and Stage Q&As, there is one question I get asked nearly every single time.

What would you tell your younger self if you met them today?

It is an interesting question to consider.

If you could meet a version of yourself, what Wisdom would you give them?

It is a question with many layers of depth that exist within it, and I always have the same response.

Before I tell you my response though, I want to put a different question in your head...

Is this the Question we should be asking, or is there a Better Question?

They say that the level of your Success will depend on the Quality of your Questions.

So, back to the Question first asked.

If I were to meet my younger self, what would I tell them?

Nothing.

That is correct, I wouldn't tell them anything.

Why?

Well, usually people use this scenario as a way to mentally fix mistakes they made in the past.

However, I see Life differently.

All the mistakes that happened in the past were Good.

Now, they usually felt Awful in the moment.

Some of my mistakes nearly led to the end of "Cody" as we know him.

But every single one of those mistakes shaped me into who I am today.

I Love who I am today, and that is not something I could say in the past.

There was a time when I despised nearly every ounce of my being and I nearly cast it all away into the abyss at one point or another.

Today though, because I Understand those deep dark states of Despair and Agony, I Appreciate Life more fully.

I Appreciate Humanity more as well.

Through all of the Challenges, the Mistakes, the Betrayals, the Abandonments, and the Pains I learned more about what it is to be "Human".

It also gave me the Power to see these things in others.

Learning to overcome my Darkest Times gave me the ability to help others overcome theirs.

When I say that, "You "Can" Change The World", it isn't just a brand tagline.

It is a Deep Knowing that comes from the Core of my Being that I "Earned" through all the Trials that occurred.

Which is "exactly" why I would never tell my younger self anything.

If I lost "any" of those moments, I'm unsure if I would be who I am today.

If something had come easier to me, would I "appreciate" what Hard Work has shown me?

If I didn't face a Challenge, would I "see" that Challenge when others face it?

Would my "Heart" be what it is today?

I'm not sure and that is a risk I would never take.

However, I do like to have fun...

So sometimes I say that "if" I saw a younger version of myself I might just wink at them... leaving them forever wondering what that wink was supposed to mean...

Now, this leads me to the Question that I posed.

Is there a Better Question we should be asking?

Well, I've been going through a course recently and in it, we have been looking at pictures of ourselves from our youth, from before we started judging ourselves, and aspects of the world started setting in.

This leads me to what I believe would be a significantly better Question.

It is not about what "We" could Teach our Younger Selves, but What could your Younger Self Teach "You"?

There is a Beautiful Simplicity and Power that exists within us when we are young.

Before the Dis-Stress and Burnout came over us.

Before Fears started to seep into our Beings.

Before Society told us what we were or were not allowed to become.

There is a Purity that existed within our Younger Selves.

What could "they" Teach Us?

I think this Question is far more Valuable to our Lives.

What could my Younger Self Teach Me?

Joy can Change the World.

Truly Expressing our Thoughts can cause people to act in ways we would never Expect.

There is Power in Moving Forward and Getting Back Up.

The Pain is Temporary, but the Goal is Worth it.

Friendship is an Amazing part of Life.

What even is "Fear"?

Let's Do It!

Of course we have got this!

These are just a few of the Lessons my Younger Self has been Teaching Me.

What Would Your Younger Self Teach You?

I don't think I would tell me not to do this or that, because all those things worked out in the long run. I don't know if that is always the case, or just a case of lucky ole me. What I do want to tell the younger me, is to use the words "fuck off" a bit more often.

  • See you feel that way because you love who you are today. You have reached that level were you grew from whatever happened in your past. Unfortunately, I've not reached that level yet. So, I sure have a lot to tell my younger self, especially on ways to protect myself, physically and emotionally, on who to trust and not to trust and a lot more things. All those things that happened in my past are still a trauma to me. I've not grown to be a better person from it for me to say they were good. I'm sorry for this pessimism on your optimistic piece. It's not my intention to bring anyone down but I was just being honest about myself. Moving on to what I can learn from my younger self. Hmmm. That's a good question. I can't think of anything at the moment. Maybe I need more time. Hang on, I'll come back here to comment if I can think of anything
