Sleep, dream, love maybe
I constantly sit in abstract awe of dark roses under moonlit skies Here, within this secret garden of my inner tormented self

My best friend is not of this world. But he makes himself available to me at all times. He has heard all my stories, been with me through the good, bad, ugly, and has dried my tears. He has been my comfort when everyone else has left me.

Dear H, Many of us look up to those who inspire us. Not me. I look down. I didn’t find my idol in a book or newspaper, in a classroom or on TV. I gave birth to you. You’re sitting five feet away as I type this, licking icing off your fingers from the cinnamon swirl you made yesterday, and wiping them on your blanket, eyes fixed on an inane series of YouTube shorts. Not inspiration material? Sometimes seeing the cogs makes our heroes all the more inspiring, and you inspire me every day.

I'M SORRY my depression consumed us. I'm even more sorry yours didn't. If it had we could have been over a lot sooner. Not that I wanted an end at all. But because that's where we ended up anyways, we might as well have saved us a lot of time. People talk about cherishing or focusing on the good stuff... and let me tell yah, having been outside the good stuff for a while I really wish none of it ever happened. This isn't usual for me. I like to think I'm rather the optimist. But with you babe, I spent all my optimism. This isn't to say I didn't have a blast, feel love more intensely then ever imaginable... that's the issue really. I believed you were my one, my soulmate, twinflame, kindred spirit, partner in crime, better half, companion, lover, any other names I'm missing? Someone I've been with in many lives before this one maybe... (I don't know if I believe that sort of thing anymore, but with you I did.)

RIP McDonald's
Hot, hot, Florida summer. The air is so thick you are basically swimming in it. The river is only a half mile away at most, the gulf a few miles further, but it's not the kind of water you jump into to cool down. It's a different kind altogether.
Penelope JanePublished 4 months ago in Humans Multiple Intelligences
This article is about different types of intelligence, commonly known as 'Multiple Intelligences': a theory designed by a psychologist and professor of Harvard University named Howard Gardner in his book 'Multiple Intelligences' in 1983.
Vocally Blue.
Long before Kylie Jenner released a widely criticized clothing line that included a blue puffer, my mom bought a teenaged me an even bigger, blue-er, shapeless puffer.
Multipotentiality and All That Jazz
I learned a new word this week: MULTIPOTENTIALITY. Honestly, I don’t even know if it is a real word, but as I sit here and type this into a word document and it isn’t underlined in red, I am inclined to think it is. It was just a comment someone left on a social media post, and probably meant to be relatively empowering yet casual, but let me tell you- that word hit me with the weight of a thousand stars. Multipotentiality.
Morgan LongfordPublished 5 months ago in HumansThe Rolling of the Waves
It’d be so easy to say that tonight I just went for a dip and got some dinner, but I won’t. Feeling a little low after rediscovering the soft, warm touch of a woman last night, I take the bike and cruise down to Cua Dai with 50k in my pocket. The lady who I pay to park keeps offering me coconuts until she was shown that I had a beer in my hand. A walk in the dark along the shore shows me what quiet is. The waves crash down so gently as a breeze almost sneaks by. There’s a young couple hanging off each other's arms and laughing before they settle in a wooden lounge chair to make out under the moonlight. I find a seat nearby just hoping to be seen - hoping that a beautiful woman will stroll by and want to have a beer and a cuddle with me. The rolling of the waves settles my maladjusted thoughts that swirl in a pool of wonder. One wave comes in to meet the sand, and another follows, and another…
Michael O'ConnorPublished 5 months ago in HumansShould We Always Be an Open Book?
One thing that I have learned over the last several years is that I shouldn’t be too honest or vulnerable with just anyone. In the past it was nice to be able to say that I was an open book. I was to the point that people knew I’d basically answer any question. Over time people around me realized this, and would ask me all sorts of personal questions that I felt obligated to always answer. Talk about painful! I have learned that we shouldn’t be a completely open book to just everyone. As the old quote goes, “Don’t cast your pearls before swine.” That quote is appropriate when thinking about sharing your heart and soul with people. I think it’s important to seek the right people to be vulnerable with because when you do, it builds relational intimacy. I think at the end of the day we’re all seeking meaningful relationships, not heartbreak, right?
Rowan FinleyPublished 6 months ago in HumansThe Good Burger Quandary
“You’re sleeping in the bathtub tonight!” You don’t have to worry about any spoilers for Good Burger 2. This delightfully absurd movie is worth watching, especially if you have kids, because like the first one, it’s so bad it’s good. But this essay is not about the movie, so I won’t put the above line in context lest I spoil the joke. What’s important is that it was this movie from which the line came.
C. Rommial ButlerPublished 6 months ago in HumansThe Courage to Belong
If you were asked the question, what is the longest relationship you have ever had? How would you answer? With the number of days, maybe years, you have known your parents, siblings, current spouse or partner.
