My Crazy-Ass Brother
Sitting in the driver's seat of my Daddy's once-pristine Dodge Ram truck, I shout to no one in particular, "What in the world is wrong with my brother?" My anger grows as I watch the rearview mirror swinging back and forth, no longer serving any useful purpose, hanging from frayed wires.

Pulling a Lizz
Our organization holds an annual leadership conference culminating with a highly anticipated awards dinner. However, the awards given out to the recipients have been a source of concern for many attendees, including myself. The plaques looked outdated, reminiscent of the 1970s, and although people were happy to be recognized, they never seemed too excited about the actual awards.

Haven
To everyone else on the farm, she looked like a single oak. She was the type of tree my Daddy called a climbing tree. She grew alongside what my eight-year-old mind believed to be a magical lake. It was only a pond, but for a child, there is little difference between a pond and a lake. The real difference was in what made the lake magical. That would be the silver mist that occasionally covered it. Because the mist only appeared when something extraordinary was about to happen. When the silver mist came, mystical and wondrous events were not far behind.

Hunny
Gorgeous, strong-willed, intelligent, with no formal education and a whole lot of crazy, that was my Hunny, my mother. I entered school in 1957 and quickly realized that my mother was unlike other mothers. She didn’t attend PTA or parent-teacher meetings. Her mindset was on earning her own money. Her goal was not to be dependent on anyone, especially my father.
