Ripley: Non-Traditional Review
I’m teaching media literacy this semester and a couple of weeks ago we were discussing how useful it is to know that any entertainment content has a potential to work for us, consumers, at four different (albeit often overlapping) dimensions: cognitive, affective, aesthetic, and moral.

When I saw the exchange on X (formerly Twitter) presented in the cover image for this story, I nearly died of laughter. Is it really possible Dan Bongino does not know who Stephen King is, the most prominent horror writer in the world, whose books have been translated into over 50 languages and sold almost half a billion copies in his entire career? Has Bongino never seen any of the movies based on Stephen King's books? This is really hard to believe.

An Ode to Triple Mango Ice Cream
I am in Williamsburg, Virginia on spring break (almost over now) for a reunion with my graduate school gal friends from almost 30 years ago. When I was done with walking the streets of Colonial Williamsburg, I stumbled upon a Baskin-Robbins store near a parking lot that I tucked my car in. Mango is one of my favorite fruits, so I was excited beyond words to see they have a triple mango ice cream variety. It was so good I had to write an ode in limerick to it.

"Move your long sticks, bro!"
The two friends went into the lake for a warm sunset swim, leaving the campfire high on. This was their first trip outside a tight group of six that they usually went with on so many different hiking and mountaineering adventures. This time they all had different study and work schedules and couldn’t do it all together.

"Hombres" Managing "Hambre"
Recently, I had great honor to both participate in and lead a session of a writing retreat for a group of extremely talented and creative students - writers and editors of a college newspaper. The retreat was in an art museum and for my session I had them go out into the museum, take a picture of an artifact (most of them ended up with paintings, but there were a couple of sculptures as well) and write down a short caption for the picture about the artifact or a sentence that would help them later build a story.
