You gobbled the gobbler and filled up your plate,

A festive tradition on this November date.

You made room for seconds, and piled it high,

With cranberry relish and sweet pumpkin pie,

Topped with a dollop or two of whipped cream,

And a scoop of some marshmallow stuff that was green,

Then helped clear the table and stow all the grub,

Leaving a sink full of dishes for later to scrub,

You loosened your belt and plopped on the couch,

To assume the position of a lazy teen slouch.

You made it to halftime – not one minute more,

Before joining a chorus of post-turkey snores.

You awoke with a startle to the jingling of keys,

And a request to bring home the perfect-shaped tree.

You sipped apple cider and sang Deck the Halls,

While stringing up garland and decorative balls.

When your guests finally parted and said their goodbyes,

With Christmas arrangements alas finalized,

You turned out the lights and went to your room,

With every intention of sleeping β€˜til noon,

But early next morning, much to your chagrin,

Your wife woke you abruptly before 5 a.m.!

Determined to capture the Black Friday deals,

Of enticing doorbusters, markdowns, and steals!

It’s your task to drive her hither and yon,

And visit each shop before the best deals are gone!

Your credit card maxed-out, your shopping trip ends,

But the day’s not yet over – you catch a movie with friends!

When alas you arrive home, and the day is adjourned,

You prepare some leftovers of stuffing and bird,

The day draws to closing with that lingering aroma,

And a leftover turkey-induced Tryptophan Coma.

You collapse in your bed without even undressing,

As you thank God above for your bountiful blessings!

I like the use of sensory details to bring the scene to life. For example, the lines "You gobbled the gobbler and filled up your plate" and "With cranberry relish and sweet pumpkin pie" make me feel like I'm right there at the table, enjoying the feast.
