Sentiments to sediment

The time it moves in increments

No way to fully comprehend

The way that it is spent

Lifetimes measured in a year

Before you know, it disappears

Marked with laughter and with tears

And filled with unawares

Once here, then gone, Life carries on

Memories forever and anon

Everything that was, undone

Until rebirth has again begun

From dinosaurs to distant shores

Animals that crawled and roared

Procured until they are no more

And what was it all for

A dollar or ill gotten fame

A title and a well known name

Leaving the planet torn and maimed

So, tell me, what was gained

Some preserved bones and piles of dust

Tarnished metals turned to rust

The loss of earth and innocence

In the guise of wanderlust

You should be proud of this… I absolutely loved it. The flow of it was perfect. I particularly loved the question of what was gained. This felt very powerful.

Holey moley, this is fantastic. Good luck with this one. really, really well done.

  • "Sentiments to sediment" opened this so hard. The flow of this was outstanding and each line was better than the last. I hope this gets Top Story because it deserves it! Really feels like a slam poem. Great job!
