They're already dead.

We’ve all been there.

We receive the most beautiful flower arrangement that ever existed, become so enamoured with their beauty that when they start to die, we cant let go of what they used to be…

They end up dying and losing their petals before we finally build up the courage to bin the rotters.

Sound familiar?

I am the worst culprit for this. But why is it so hard to let go of something that is so clearly past its prime?

*

The hope that one day they will suddenly become as beautiful as they once were?

*

Or maybe we fear that the memory of the good times may be lost in the absence of any morbid reminder?

*

Or do we settle for their decaying state in the belief that we will never again find something that mustered the same feelings in us?

*

Its my guess that it’s a varying combination of all the above.

If you suffer from these beliefs, let me tell you now…

*

Bin the damn flowers.

*

You will find the same beauty in fields, in forests… Hell, there is a sea of talented florists out there who can help you along this journey.

You never have to keep that bouquet longer than its shelf life, life will be ok without them.

Treat yourself to a bunch every week!

Just whatever you do, don’t limit yourself. There's more than one bunch in every lifetime.

There are too many colours, species, varieties, and they are all waiting for you to take them home and make you happy.

So darling, go now.

BIN THE DAMN FLOWERS

I remember your buds,

The excitement I felt,

Dreaming of the colours,

Painted by nature herself.

*

And when you flowered,

I couldn’t believe my luck,

My hands cupped your bloom,

And I was love struck.

*

But as the sun sets,

The moon cycle begins,

It’s a hard reality,

But time always wins.

*

Your beauty has faded,

My love for you hasn’t,

Yet I prepare anyway,

Because life-long this wasn’t.
