I'd Say I'm Happy For You But Then I'd Be Lying
"Comparison is the thief of joy". I know this firsthand because I'm always jealous of someone and consequently I'm also always a bundle of bitterness. Out of all the good ones envy has got to be my go to vice. It's my favorite way to self-harm. I don't know why that is exactly. All I know is nothing puts me in a yuckier mood than seeing people's vacation and engagement posts. Now is this all the time? No, on rare occasion I am happy for my friends. But everyone else on my social media feeds are perfect strangers, so I can't be obliged to be happy for ALL of them ALL the time right??
Val DaliPublished 6 years ago in MotivationGrowing Pains
When I was growing up on those cold and hard streets, I have seen them all: danger, smoking gunshots, and paranoia. My name is Marcus Dandridge, and I am here to tell you about one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America, which is North Memphis, Tennessee. It has a significant impact on my life; it shaped my thought and behaviors. I have experienced a lot, developed my own ideas, and how I overcome adversity. I grew up in North Memphis, and it influenced me in a myriad of ways.
Marcus DandridgePublished 6 years ago in MotivationWhy I Think New Year's Resolutions Are Ridiculous
It’s that magical time of the year again – the time when people will spontaneously decide to make radical changes to their lifestyle only to realize that they’re too hard to keep up and as a result said plans inevitably collapse by the middle of the first month of the year.
Arvind PennathurPublished 6 years ago in MotivationDear Younger Me, Speak Up!
In less than three months, it'll be my 18th birthday. There is no better way to write an advice for my younger (and future) self than with a letter written by my present self.
Karina ThyraPublished 6 years ago in MotivationThe Waiting Period
In the society we live in, to wait for something is like a four-letter word. Why wait when there are ways to rush orders you made, rush food you can make. Remember the days where we had to wait to get on the internet. Dial-up, lol. That was fun. Now, we have everything we may need at our fingertips. For example, if we want our packages in two days, we can upgrade to Amazon Prime to receive our packages earlier. Waiting for things is now the thing of the past. Now, to be honest I am one of those people who has a hard time waiting. I can wait for certain things, such as the right guy, the right car, the right place to live; you get my point. However, there are just somethings I would like right now. I am not saying wanting things now is a bad thing, just saying the older I get the more I understand the point of waiting. I am learning life or God does not work that way. I found that life or God will only give you want you need quickly and the things you want may take some time.
Rashida SawyerPublished 6 years ago in MotivationHow To Motivate Yourself to Get up Early and Exercise
For those of us who love to hit the snooze button, waking up even a few minutes early to exercise in the morning may seem like an impossibility. Finding a way to get into a morning workout routine can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be.
Jake PinePublished 6 years ago in Motivation2018: The Year of No Excuses
I’ve never quite been one to do gigantic overhauls with my life around the New Year's time, but after 2017, I feel almost obligated to do so out of a personal fear of repeating the past over again.
Scott CorvusPublished 6 years ago in MotivationNew Year, New Me?
First of all, I am disgusted by myself for that. I hate hearing the "new year, new me" phrase, but I think (like every year) that this could be my year. I started this blog as a stay-at-home mom wanting to build a small extra income and socialize with other mommies out there; then it became too much. In the past year and a half, I had two falling outs with my family, separated from my husband, moved four times, celebrated Parker's birthday twice, joined a sorority, joined the honors society, started three jobs and still managed to maintain straight A's. Life is hard, what can I say? You hit a few roadblocks, and you keep on truckin'. Have I wanted to drop out of school? Yes! Have I considered getting a low wage job and living off the government for the rest of my life? Absolutely! But I want SO MUCH MORE out of my life.
Hilary NicodemusPublished 6 years ago in MotivationTo Love Yourself
I know there are some people out there in this world that go through a point in their lives when they lose themselves, which has more than likely made them second guess who they are, and their purpose as a measly little human being on this planet. I, for one, have gone through this, and as a matter of fact I’ve dealt with this my entire life. Since my childhood I’ve struggled with self-acceptance and always wanting to be liked by others, and because of this it caused me to desperately need approval from other people. This craving just grew every single day like a fast growing vine, and until I knew it my entire life was engulfed with this need for others to like me.
Crystal CortezPublished 6 years ago in MotivationNew Year, New You?
It's a new year and it's my favorite time of year because that means new beginnings and new opportunities to start over, start fresh, and give yourself a clean slate. Over the last few months, I found myself trying so hard to move on, from pain, from heartache, from missing a certain someone. January couldn't come fast enough.
Aurea GonzalezPublished 6 years ago in MotivationLighting Candles
I decided not to give up. That's quite a trait, you know...waiting, idling in place as the world around you turns and you're sitting (or standing) in place just waiting for the stars to burn. Bringing your wish to life. Semi-stars promising potential, though not negative, are not enough. You need the brightest stars, then the moon, to light your way. Each day is some sort of prison, whether created by yourself or others, or just the foundations of circumstance, who knows. What matters is that it is there, and while it is important not to forget in order that you do not lose the fire or the drive; what is far more important is to shift your focus onto your solution. Making ROCK BOTTOM your new home, only to burn it down later and use the old stones to build a new one. The DREAM, if you will.
A. LelloPublished 6 years ago in MotivationLessons to Take into 2018
This is just a short reflection of everything I learned in 2017 that I plan to take along to help me in 2018 and I hope you’ll find something helpful in this too. 2017 wasn’t the best year for a lot of us by the look of social media but maybe with some of these lessons and the new ones we will learn 2018 will be our year.
