Why Design Thinking Is an Attractive Path to Success
Scientists are taught analyze. From the beginning of their education, scientists are encouraged to break apart a situation and identify the root causes. Historical data is reliable. Artists, on the other hand, are taught to synthesize. Artists are expected to rely on their imagination and originality is prized. Are disciples of one school of thought more successful than the other?

When I was a child, I had many dreams. I wanted to become a rockstar like my dad, I wanted to become a famous singer, I wanted to become a fashion designer and stylist, and I wanted to own my own company.

Why Your Black Business "Won't Survive"
Context As I write this piece, I reflect on what brought me to the south. I lived a privileged life in California, situated in the mecca of diversity, the San Francisco Bay Area. And we can say I still live that privileged life, seeing as I can go back anytime that I want to. I was well aware of the evils of poverty and de facto segregation that lends itself to the narrative “separate but never equal.” I knew the history of internment camps in the peninsula and race riots and the establishment of the Black Panthers in the east bay. Growing up we learned about the racist Jim Crow like laws forced upon the Chinese, and we learned about the Chicano movements of Southern California. I was surrounded by whites, Asians, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, few blacks, and an increasing population of Middle Easterners. And I got to be at the center of the Pride movement every single year. And I grew up with the notion that the south was evil, racist, and not somewhere I wanted to go.

My name is Monika. I'm a stay-at-home mama who lives in Kansas. I have this at-home job to help bring in some extra income and keep me busy while my kids are at school until they get home! :) I got into selling candles because I myself LOVE candles or anything that smells good, and I'm more than sure a lot of others do too! The smell of them is so amazing, certain oils you get can be so calming. Soooo here we go!!!
Monika LeachPublished 7 years ago in JournalThe Many Jobs of Me
This is chronicling the jobs that I acquired growing up and stories about them from my perspective. In each chapter there is a brief synopsis of what the job entailed and what was expected. The stories following the synopsis are just some stories of what happened while I was employed there, good, bad, and ugly. Some are funny and some are just plain “what the hell”.
Chapter 2
The first day of work for the company I had to scan in to the time clock which could not be done any sooner than 5 minutes prior to my scheduled time. Then there is finding a clear computer and setting up the station for business by putting the tape into the tape deck and booting up the computer. Once this part is done it is the briefing on what we are selling and the numbers that we need to hit that day. Then the “fun” begins.
Solving For 'When': How Data Science is Cracking Marketing's Toughest Problem
In marketing, as in showbiz, timing is everything. Even if you know what you want to say and who your audience is, when you deliver your message can be the difference between a sale and an abandoned shopping cart.
Rob SalkowitzPublished 7 years ago in JournalUnpaid Internships
At the risk of looking like an "asshole, lazy millennial," I want to discuss unpaid internships and their benefits to our society or lack thereof. In the past, internships of any kind were the golden gate for experience in the workplace. The benefits of having an internship meant that one would have the necessary skills to help later in a job—usually with the same company! When unpaid internships were amazing was when people did not need quite as much to live comfortably. These internships usually lead immediately to a job with that company or at the very least gave enough experience that a job was found fairly quickly afterwards. The benefits from these have dwindled in my opinion, sure the experience is great, but at what price?

Michael DeanePublished 7 years ago in JournalI Started a Business and It Was Surprisingly Easy
I think almost everyone dreams of doing something big with themselves or by themselves (to a degree) as they grow up. "I'm going to open my own gym." "I want to run my own restaurant." "I'm going to become a dental floss tycoon." You know, the usual hopeful successes. What I've felt is that most everyone uses it as a mental escape from their current situation. In my own analytics (from nowhere except the randomization of my thought process), about 70% of these are pipe dreams. People want it, but they don't really plan on going for it. So what's interesting is that I never once in my life thought to myself, "I'm going to partner up with someone and start a Motorsports Marketing business." Yet it happened.
