halloween
Get into the Halloween spirit; all about trick or treating, spooky costumes, Halloween decorations and haunted houses for October 31st and all year round.
Why I love horror movies on Halloween.
I started a tradition in my thirties. Every year on Halloween I watch a movie that has Vincent Price acting in it. It has nothing to do with fitting in or being like someone else. I watch other movies too but I wanted to be entertained by things on the back shelf. I watch horror movies all year round. I noticed vintage film when I was younger. It really does not get the writing credits it deserves. Some of those films would be considered monumental art movements that were idolized but they are shunned because they deal with the murder aspect. Some of their storylines sound like the next great America novel. To kill a Mockingbird deals in some of the most vulgar topics. Racism gave a lie the right to kill a black man for committing rape. That in itself is ridiculously cruel and insane. But most horror films get lost in the mix between bad porn and obnoxious teenagers who slaughter silly monsters. I wanted to see what else was out there. I wanted to be entertained and I wanted to see where it all started. I started collecting rare horror films in my twenties. I found a few typical duds. But I also found some of the most amazing pieces of art in cinema known to my mind. I think Vincent Price was a name mostly associated in the bizarre of horror. But he was also a gentleman who was an amazing performance artist. The Tingler for example is a brilliant film. Cat and mouse trust games between married couples. And the only cure is to scream. A puppet master alien insect creature that can kill you by your own fear. Very before it’s time. Opening the door to shows like the Xfiles and movies like What Lies Beneath. I think Vincent Price reminds me of great Friday night movies and I want to celebrate Halloween by entertainment. I am not obsessed and I doubt that I have seen even half of Vincent Price’s films but I am happy with continuing. The Last Man on Earth is a Price film where he plays a scientist. He watched everyone in the world die of a mystery illness. Then he realized that the disease was turning the human race into vampire zombies. He was trying to save the world by killing the vampires. Then the government killed him along with anyone else to cover it up. They didn’t want to take the time to look for hope or the possibility that anyone in the area was still human. They resorted to atomic bombs and bullets. I am a Halloween fan. Anything with the phrase Michael Meyers in it would turn my head. I have seen everything to do with the Halloween franchise. I love John Carpenter’s work. He is an inspiration to me. Michael Meyers is a sad story of a child who was brainwashed by mad scientist who wanted to dabble in Druid witchcraft in hopes of gaining power. They never considered the abused child who incurred years of brain damage . They also never cared for the fact that he would wake up someday and realize that he murdered his whole family. In some insane trip of rage triggered by the hands that robotically controlled him.

The Grinch cannot stop Christmas from coming, because the December holiday is in the heart. COVID-19, however, seems poised to disrupt Halloween 2020, because this is most often a group activity. According to The Washington Post (sales of adult costumes have taken a drastic decline based on years past. It is also being reported that 37 states have canceled Halloween. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released holiday guidelines that include Halloween. The health experts are advising high-risk activities such as indoor costume parties, hayrides, and traditional trick-or-treating, be avoided.

Halloween Tradition Every holiday has its traditions and Halloween is just as much as a holiday as Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s in my book. Witches conjure up the dead and pagans call out to Samhain for whatever reason... if you believe in that sort of thing. Your average normal non-religious American like myself sees Halloween as an excuse to eat desserts, candy and party or watch all of your favorite scary thriller movies.
Easy Halloween 2020 Costume Ideas
Still Worth the Effort Despite the current situation possibly cancelling Halloween this year, it is still worth the effort to dress up in a costume; even if you have to have a virtual get together this holiday. Understandably; many people may be planning on doing this for Halloween, but don’t really want to go to a lot of trouble or effort for essentially; staying home all dressed in a costume. With this in mind, let’s look at some ideas for easy to do costumes for the 2020 Halloween holiday.

Yesterday, my wife and I were sitting in front of the television, having dinner. A news bulletin came on about how shops here in Ireland are gearing up for Halloween. I made a casual remark to my wife along the lines of "phew, thank God we don't have to worry about all that nonsense anymore". In fact, I think I went on to say something like "let's turn out the lights, lock the door and pretend we're not home", thus negating the need for us to have treats for all of the brats who would dare to disturb my evening.
Quarantined Halloween 2020
I'm a huge Halloween lover. Since I became a teacher, I always dressed up for my students for Halloween. I went to university dressed in Halloween attire and it really had nothing to do with the cliché 'death and gore' of it all. It was because it gave me a reason to dress up and where wigs, to make people laugh at my funny costumes and actually have a reason to do so. I mean once, I think I went to university dressed as Lestat from "Interview with the Vampire" and the very next year I went as Kiriyama from "Battle Royale" so you can tell how informed I am about the season.

I had very fond memories of Halloween when I was a kid. In some ways when I think back to those days they're fond memories because I remember the good times I had with my late mom. She was the one that used to come out with me and my brother to go trick or treating. I always remember how fun I used to have when I was a kid back then.

I’m just going to put this out there, I don’t think the Phantasm series has any real intentional message or meaning. We are talking about a franchise that spawned from a film that was supposed to be a one-off. Writer and director Don Coscarelli has stated numerous times that he initially wasn’t interested in making a sequel to the 1979 film.

There was an uncanny spectral element to the film. The vintage aesthetic, the way the camera maneuvered throughout its entire duration. Its minimal use of spectacle and special effects. Its impeccable flow; transitioning from scene to scene without losing a grasp of my attention.
Home Alone
When I was 17 years old, my parents decided to go on a vacation for their 20th anniversary. They tended to travel a lot for work, so being left at home with my big brothers wasn’t anything new. We had moved to a new neighborhood a few months before, so besides the scenery, not too much had really changed.

Gather children as I spin a tale or two of a house I once knew. It was not very big or either small and not that different from many others in the neighborhood. It was said that an elderly couple once occupied the home. The wife and husband were nice to all that knew them. They were happy as can be, until one day the little old man became sick and past away. With her husband no longer alive the wife did not wish to stay.
