Heeramandi Netflix Review

So the most expensive show to date on Netflix India has finally come in front of us, named Heeramandi. I have settled it, and trust me, there is a lot to say about this show.

If you are interested in this series, then you will be requested to stay on this review ride till the end, because only then will it be clear to you whether it will be right for you to spend time on this series or not.

Let's talk about the basics. This show is eight episodes long, and in these eight episodes, almost the story of the show has been finished. If this show becomes a big hit, maybe the story will continue in season 2, but for now, you get a satisfying ending.

If you want, you can also follow this show with your family because you will not get to see any nude or very bold scenes, but yes, some strong language have been used, which is common these days.

Before passing any comment on the story, let me tell you that the creator of the Heeramandi show is Sanjay Leela Bhansali, or, in case you do not know anything about him, let me tell you that he is the visual mastermind of India.

I mean, the visuals, set design, or setups in their movies are of a very grand level, and this time they have been cashed out by Netflix, so the expectations are higher, how much have they spoiled the expectations? Before coming to that, let me give you a little idea of the story and what you are going to see.

Story

So see, the story has been set up at a time when India was not independent. There was a market of courtesans in Lahore, known as Heermandi, where Nawabs often used to go to satisfy their hunger for lust.

Let me tell you further that in this series you have to follow the journey of Mallikajaan, who is the queen of Heeramandi, or you can say that she is a lioness, but to compete with this lioness comes another captive, Fareedajaan, played by Sonakshi Sinha.

Without spoiling anything, let me tell you that this show presents a revenge drama as well as a love story, and not only two characters but also Bibbojaan, Lajjojaan, and other characters are present here. To learn about them all, you will have to watch this series.

I have also written another review of this show titled Heeramandi Web Series Review, where I also mentioned that this show is visually very beautiful.

Heeramandi Netflix Review

Visuals, set design, costumes, lighting, zoomers, or the getup given to the ladies, the attire they are wearing, or their jewelry—you will get the complete vibe of a grand-level show, and it is going to be a fun-to-watch experience for you because the aesthetic presentation of this series is visually very eye-pleasing and attention has been paid to the smallest detailing.

So the main USP of Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies is still intact here, i.e., in the visuals department. Once again, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has not disappointed his fans, but in one place, he has ruined the entire series, which is the story and its presentation.

To be honest, a lot of money has been invested in this show, but unfortunately, according to the demand for its story, this show will not be able to engage you. I mean, if I define this show for you in one line, then I would just say that this is a one-time average web show on Netflix, which no doubt has father-level visuals and heavy dialogue, and overall the story is absolutely average, whose screenplay is so weak that it is unable to engage you throughout the show.

There are many characters, but the way they are written, there is no strength in them at all.

Subplots are also seen regarding India's freedom, etc., or the romantic angle that is seen somehow spoils the fun, and because of these, the show becomes so long.

I liked the acting of some actors very much, like Manisha Koirala as Mallikajaan, who is awesome; Aditi Rao's character Bibbojaan is completely fun to watch; Sonakshi Sinha also impressed well; and the work of the rest of the supporting cast was also okay.

Conclusion

Overall, to conclude my thoughts, I would just say that if you want to watch a visually stunning series by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with a decent story, or, should I say, a below-average story, which will keep you engaged through visuals, you get to see grand-level set designs, you get to see good artwork, music, or songs that give you the feeling of a masterpiece, so not with much expectation but ignoring its characters or story, you can check out this show once.

Please don't be under any illusions while watching this show. Like here, you will see the story like a masterpiece and the characters will win your heart. That is why I said to keep your expectations low because, as I said, the series is visually very good.

However, the screenplay completely fails in delivering the story and establishing the characters.

The most important thing is that the first four episodes are easily digestible, but the revolution of independence shown in them from the fifth episode onwards will disappoint you. I mean, the ending portion is totally Ch#tiyapa.

In my view, this is an average time pass web series of Netflix. If you have also seen it, please express your viewpoints on it by writing in the comment box.
