The Bed.
Justin sighed as he stood by the door, locking it before making his way toward his room. As he started down the hall, he felt deep weariness seeping through him- a long day of work had taken its toll. Nothing enticed him more than to flop onto his bed and sleep until the end of time. Finally, he arrived, and his breath caught at the wonderful sight. He gazed down upon the silky white sheets, glowing under the moonlight that poured from his open window like a field of starlit cotton. He smiled. At last, he could rest.

Broken Soul
Sylvin sat in the strangling darkness, his pride broken. His long tail draped on the floor behind him like a ragged curtain; forgotten, destroyed. Humiliated, he shied away from all life, confining the shame of having been embarrassed in front of those he knew. The feathers that were once always skyward, no matter the strain, now hung loosely down, like a dying plant. He wished for his pride to once again ignite; for his crest to rise upwards like it so often used to. For decades, he laid alone… for a peacock without pride could not call himself a peacock.

The Stealth Of A Hunter
A cat was crouched low to the dirt, its figure obscured by the long stalks of grasses that hid it. In front of him, there lay a feather-tailed glider, who sat on their small haunches, sniffing the air. After concluding there were no predators around, it dropped and scurried over to one of the stalks, coming very close to the cat. At this, the cat’s fur-tipped ears tilted back, ever so slightly, hoping the glider did not hear, and lifted his back legs. The prey was within striking distance- the timing must be right.

The Open Door Policy
The kitten squeaked out a yawn as she sat on her little bed, observing the room. Her gaze, as usual, fell upon the open door. Her owner was constantly scolding her about how she should never leave the house, and how she already had everything she needed there. Still… She always wondered what was out there. What if it was something amazing that the owner didn’t want her to see? She’d sometimes seen other cats walking outside through the window. Think of the smells! After a moment of thought, she rose… then began striding towards the door.

The Sound Of Darkness
An old dragon sighed in the darkness. Huge, thick, rusted chains hung loosely around his great neck, restraining him from doing all but lay there, alone. His tattered wings were sore from having been bound for so long, causing blisters to spread all along the edges and bottom of his wings. His long tail draped across the hard, rocky stone floor, restricted by long ropes of chains harshly thrown around it. He could not sleep soundly at night, as he was constantly haunted by a past mistake- one small, unforgivable action… but often, that was what did the most damage.

The Shadow Of A Wave
Waves crashed against the shore, blocking out the sound of distant roaring, although the creature’s identity remained a mystery. A child stood at the edge of the water, allowing the waves to lap her toes as she stared out into the horizon. Squinting as hard as she dared into the sun, she saw a graceful silhouette beginning to appear. A long, elegant, thin neck raised from the water, and a long fin ran the length of it; down the neck and onto the back. It turned towards the girl and seemingly smiled. It stayed for a moment, then dove downwards.

The Great Show
The sound of tolling bells and cheering crowds could be heard for miles around. The arena contained thousands of joyful people, simply waiting for the show to begin. Participants stood in rows at the middle of the arena, stretching and warming up for what was yet to come. A monstrous obstacle course was set off to the left; the main event. Men selling goods walked between the rows of people with their carts, making quick money before the show began. Suddenly, a trumpet blew at the top of the arena, and the words announced were clear;
