Honest, Brave, and Generous
My grandma's birthday is March 11th. She died back in 2018. Her birthday is around the same time as my brother's, so we would often get together for joint celebrations. The last time I saw her was at one of those birthday lunches. I remember my aunt somehow managed to pay that time around. My grandma was less than thrilled about that, but we were still happy to be together.

I adopted a first-year college student: here's how it worked out.
Young adults look back on their college years with mixed feelings. Some regret the amount of time they spent partying and procrastinating. Others wish there had been a way to reduce their student loans.

Normal or Special?
"I'm not normal," I say. This is usually followed by a laugh and a question. "What is normal, anyway?" I ask. Some days I want to be normal. I want to fit in with the pack and not stand out. I put plenty of pressure on myself to meet expectations and make sure I'm doing just as good as everyone else. You don't want to be "that person." I don't want to be so outlandishly different that no one accepts me.

50 Stories Later
50 stories. This is it! I'm finally at story 50. My goal was to hit this by the end of January, and I have. Yay! When I started on Vocal in March of 2021, I wasn't sure what to expect. I wasn't even sure which communities I should publish my work in.

Funny, Talented, and Confident
We fought when we were little. Then we tolerated each other, but we kept our distance. Now we're friends. We have been for about ten years now. I still remember that family vacation in South Carolina where we finally said, "You know? I think we're friends now." It was when we started coming up with code names for family members while we were playing in the pool.

What happens after listening?
"I just need you to listen to me. I don't need you to fix the problem." It's a common enough statement, but I don't exactly love it. I've been trying to reconcile the conflict about whether it's more helpful to listen to people talk about their problems or if it's more helpful to try and fix the problems.

Young Adulthood: Somewhere between learning profound life lessons and crazy
December 31, 2021. It's 11:45 pm; it's been a crazy couple of days. And there are only 15 minutes left of 2021. I'm at a conference in Kentucky with my church's young adult group. We've changed our name so many times at this point, I don't know what we are.
