When people are put through stress or trauma, they often look to superstitions as a defense mechanism. We let these superstitions inform the way we live and interact with the world around us. Because of this, in the stressful life of military combat, soldiers will often cling to ideals of good or bad luck. Like elite savant baseball pitchers, soldiers will hold true to charms and rituals out of compulsion. Forged in the fire of chaos, these beliefs are reinforced by perceived cause and effect relationships.

10 Side Effects of Being High
There is no more popular drug in this country than weed. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, more than 11 million Americans from the ages of 18 to 25 used cannabis in 2014. The institute also noted that use among youth has declined, though fewer young people consider weed a danger. While the side effects of being high become familiar with time, they may take a while to recognize or get used to at first. If you are not well versed and unsure if you are actually high, there are a number of symptoms to look for to confirm your suspicions. Most importantly, realize that being high is rarely dangerous to the body and will always wear off, so don't let any of these realizations alarm you. Once you have some experience under your belt, you will recognize that you are gonna be fine, and it's all in your mind. For the "professionals" out there, while the short term effects are minimal, there are a number of potential long term side effects to consider.

Synthpop Artists You Need to Know
The 1970s were a time of great musical experimentation and innovation. With the relatively recent technology of synthesizers becoming ever more popular, the palate with which artists were able to create their music had never been wider. As the "New Wave" of the "British Invasion" of music to the American market took hold in the later half of the 1970s, the synthesizer began to take an ever increasing role in popular music.

Pop Stars Who Love Weed
There's no denying that there is a relationship between weed and music, and we're not just talking about the pop stars who love weed. Cannabis is very popular among many walks of life, from rappers to athletes to even the average Joe like you and me. At least as far back as the Beatles (though it certainly goes back as far as Louie Armstrong and other early jazz greats), cannabis has had some association with creativity. While it is not for everyone, it would seem that a disproportionate number of pop stars share an enjoyment of cannabis. Publications like High Times have been some of the few outlets where famous people were willing to admit their love of marijuana. As the push to legalize marijuana marches on, medical marijuana and recreational weed are becoming more acceptable in mainstream culture. While weed is most closely associated with a few specific musical acts—Willie Nelson, Bob Marley, and Jimi Hendrix just to name a few—there are many more mainstream pop stars who love weed and smoke weed regularly.

Best Soccer Goalies of 2018
If you were to rank soccer positions by importance, where would goalie place among the 11 players on the pitch? One should assume that goalie would be somewhere near the top of that list. Though it is the last line of defense from scoring by the other team, the performance, speed, and dexterity of the goalie determines whether or not the goal is ultimately scored. A good shot stopper is the last man back for a team when all else fails. Though the scoring process in soccer may seem to be the least sophisticated and the simplest in team sports, proper goaltending can make it quite difficult. As a truly global sport, it comes with no surprise that there is a great wealth of goaltending talent around the world to consider, especially in the World Cup this past year. While people will knock heads over things like the greatest goalkeepers of all time, it is a bit more productive to consider some of the most impressive soccer goalies of 2018.

Car Maintenance Tips Every New Driver Should Know
The machinery in a car is nearly as complex as the human body and just as dangerous. Owning and maintaining your vehicle is a great responsibility that requires a great deal of diligence and care. While our modern vehicles are far safer and far more durable than those that came before, things still break and there are new issues to be addressed. When driving alone for the first time, one should start with some basic automotive knowledge rather than jumping right in. By understanding some of the ways in which an automobile functions, it is easier to know what forces will cause dysfunction and what signs indicate problems. While you don't need to understand the entire system behind how a car works in order to drive it, a working knowledge of the machine will allow you a far better ability to solve issues and make important snap decisions. No driver should ever go on a substantial road trip without knowing some basics of car maintenance tips.

States Expected to Legalize Marijuana by 2019
In an age of advancing medical science and analysis, many professionals are willing to take a different look at substances once dogged by society due to the influence of political and commercial interests. After realizing the medical benefits and general harmlessness of cannabis through deeper study, some states have decided to allow its recreational use. Though only recreationally legal in Oregon, Alaska, Washington State, Washington D.C., Vermont, California, Nevada, Massachusetts, Maine, and Colorado, we may likely see its introduction in a number of new states soon. For reasons both practical and social, many other states are looking into this possibility. As many political, commercial, and social forces have grown to see the potential assets and benefits offered by cannabis, the tide of legalization is beginning to come in. With the coming 2018 midterm elections, many ballot initiatives and power shifts, as well as votes by various state legislatures, are expected to bring about cannabis reform in a number of new states. With voters support rising and the potential profits becoming apparent, legalization is expected to expand past the United States of America in the near future. Though there is still a great deal of push-back from the federal government, numerous states are expected to legalize marijuana by 2019 or soon after.

10 Signs You Were in the Military
As a major military force in the world for many decades and a number of generations, the United States has many active soldiers and veterans who have served their country with honor and pride. Though some veterans are easy to identify, others are a bit stealthier. While many are proud to celebrate their service with hats, bumper stickers, fatigues, BDUs, or dress uniforms and other items that reference their time in the military, not all display their accomplishments overtly. However, there are certainly other, albeit subtle, indicators of someone's past or present military service. Like anyone, a careful study of these past and present military personnel can identify and reveal certain patterns of behavior that soldiers all share in common. These hints may not all be readily apparent at first, but a closer look will be a dead giveaway of the signs you were in the military.
