A Birthday Omen
About 14 percent of people die on their birthday. That's a pretty staggering statistic for an occasion that is meant to be celebratory. The phenomenon has got a name, it's called the 'birthday effect'. But, what accounts for such a significant uptick in deaths? A quick search will reveal that for both men and women, the cause is different. For women, it's heart attack and stroke. But for men, it's suicide and accidents.

Who Or What Is The Woke Mob?
By way of metonymy, the 'woke' mob gets thrown around quite a lot in our modern political arena. So, what exactly do you think it means? And, what’s the best way to capture the essence of the message being conveyed, without being overly (or perhaps unbearably), critical of the Left? I’ve come up with a story to do just that. So here’s my personal reflection on what or who the 'woke' mob may be….

Periodization Principles
I previously posted an article titled, The Best Time To Go For A Run, where I mentioned the concept of periodization as a factor in long-distance running. Though I never expanded upon this concept at the time of writing, I've since felt it would be rather befitting to explain periodization in a 'nutshell,' for the sake of convenience. The reader would, therefore, make the most of the information provided by combining these two articles together. However, I wish to give credit where it is due, and in saying that, I reference these notes below without a known author.

The Evolution Of The Slurpee Cup
Do you remember your very first Slurpee? Probably not. But, I do. I recall it like yesterday… It’s quite remarkable the things you remember growing up. Even if it’s been years — the great memories always stick. You want to keep those alive and sort of treasure them. Especially if you’ve lived abroad for a few years, where they don’t have any Slurpee machines, and so you’ve got to settle for something like a Gelato to curb your cravings — not to say that those aren’t any good; but, let's be honest, a Gelato is not the same as a Slurpee. If you've ever lived abroad, you'll likely know what I'm talking about. It’s like when you get a craving for a cheeseburger. Yes, it's a real thing, trust me. And though most places in Europe have McDonald's now, they still don't have any Slurpee machines...

The Best Time To Go For A RunTop Story - June 2022
The best time to go for a run involves an element of science that is often overlooked. Provided that you already know everything there is to know about nutrition, periodization and even running-shoe quality, I’ll skip right along to what I consider to be the ideal conditions to maximize your running distance. And it doesn't involve a treadmill; so from here on just forget about those sissy pieces of machinery...

The Man in His Tower
I bet you stare out of that office window at the sweltering hot pavement below like you’re a fish in a bowl, longing for nothing more than your freedom. You’re up there, somewhere, on the 56th floor perhaps, and you’re looking on down at the road like you’re missing the very ‘first’ — the very first catch of the season…

A Sign of the Black DogTop Story - April 2022
There was a hope, and perhaps a dream, once… but those days have gone and passed. Inside the pub he walked into, a slogan runs along the back wall, beyond the pair of giant television screens. It’s written along the upper cornice of the ceiling. It’s short and catchy; something along the lines of: Good beer, good cheer, and a good ol’ time. In this once booming town, all the pubs are now the same; they are vacant; with the exception of a slogan running along the wall, somewhere.

Another take on Poland
There's an article I wrote about Poland, many months ago, that attempts to capture a nation of people from the perspective of an insider, and you can still find it when you click my name and search through my published stories. In fact, I’m regularly in touch with extended family, and I hear first-hand accounts of the situation back home, as well as the war going on in Ukraine; not to mention that I've visited Poland on numerous occasions. With this being the case, and with my being careful to spot misinformation from abroad, I plan to shed some light on current events, namely: Putin's Invasion of Ukraine. My hope is — if you’re not already up-to-date with what has transpired in the past month — that, at least I'll be arming you with a bit of knowledge.

An early Autumn morning
Before the first rays of sun rise above the horizon in the distance, I have left the front door of my home, and begin treading through the cover of the night. At this hour, with not a soul in sight — not even the birds chirping to an old-fashioned, 'good morning’— I’m left alone with just the sound of my thoughts, which drown out all other noise...
