Mrs. Johansson
The mornings were always the best part of the day. The way the sun shone through the curtains, calling the night to end its reign and shining the waking sun’s peaceful glow on a delicate world. The birds sang and the wind blew gently over a small house in a small town in the middle of nowhere. The large lake still and quiet reflected the light all around them. Mrs. Johansson loved being in the middle of nowhere with middle of nowhere people and middle of nowhere peace and quiet.

Halloween is about horror and monsters and being scared and going to haunted houses and haunted mazes and getting a thrill. However, most are on the human side of things whereas we monsters and demons only have this one night to cross over and wreak havoc on the mortal world. We want to party with our fangs bared, our wings out and our eyes glowing. These are the songs for us.

Two Words
It was a small thing, sitting on the ground so innocently, so perfectly, as though it truly had nothing to hide. For days it had been the same, so delicately wrapped and tied up with a bow. “A gift.” That’s what the little tag beneath the ribbon said in curly, precise handwriting. It was almost funny. Still, the woman sitting criss-crossed in front of it did not look amused.

One Last Slice
Chocolate. It was her favorite. Sometimes it’s hard to smell it now, even the thought of it rattling me down to my knees all over again, making it hard to breathe as the memories circle around me, throwing me back into the past, and for a moment, everything stops.
