Winter
Does It have Pockets is a fantastic online literary magazine which gave me so much support when I submitted 'Winter' a piece about my favourite character out of those I have created - Winter Williams/Winta Wicks. This piece was published in their April edition along with some incredible writers. It is one of the first pieces I have been paid for. You can find it on https://www.doesithavepockets.com/fiction/alyson-smith . I recommend submitting to this magazine, they were so encouraging and supportive.

Ghost
Ghost The tattoo parlour ghost was rarely seen but people often felt its presence. Some customers claimed to have felt a cool breeze brush against their skin, sending soothing shivers down their spines. They said it lingered with them like a gentle hug that wouldn’t go until they left the building when a soft wind would carry it away from them. The non-believers attributed this to wishful thinking, but those who believed would gaze around the corners of the shop when a strange noise echoed through the space.

Hiraeth
I don't often write about my mental health stuff even though I am comfortable and confident (now!) to talk about it. I have no qualms in sharing my bi-polar diagnosis, but this is due to me feeling safe in doing so. This poem Hiraeth was written for my MA in Creative Writing that I am still shocked that I even started let alone completed and passed! I went on to write a few more personal pieces that I will share on Vocal, but this is probably my favourite. 'Hiraeth' is currently being developed as song lyrics by a group in America, should get an update by the end of July. Exciting!

Afterlife
Afterlife In just 60 seconds, my life changed forever. A decade later, the defining minute is still vividly imprinted in my memory. Some may mock as I share this story, even though some of those who laugh will be religious and have their own belief in their afterlife.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five
I have a wee piece on page 30 of Issue 33 of The Pagans of North Magazine, 'One, Two, Three...' I was inspired by the nursery rhyme which goes on 'Once I caught a fish alive...' and was surprised to discover the original was about catching a hare... Much more in the folklore nature....

Charm Against an Egg Boat
Charm Against an Egg Boat is one of my first pieces of flash fiction responding to traditional rhymes. It was published in Pagans of the North March 2024 edition https://www.pagansofthenorth.co.uk/magazine. I am submitting monthly to this online magazine and have popped my piece Ring O' Roses that was in the April Edition underneath Charm. The wee cartoon of the witch in her egg boat was drawn my partner Mick Smith.
