Do It Scared
I believe it was the winter of 2006 when I logged on to the family computer. It was a big hunk of a thing and sat on a wooden desk in what was aptly named the computer room. There were other things in there besides the computer – the ironing board, boxes upon boxes of old family videos, and the overall miscellaneous junk that tends to get accumulated over time that doesn’t have anywhere else to go. But it’s the computer room, because that’s the main purpose of it.

Whether you pen fiction or essays, eventually your human characters are going to want to have sex. While coupling is an instinct to ensure a species survives, for humans, it’s far more, mostly because our brains are the largest sex organ we possess. Sex can be existential if we procreate to leave something of ourselves behind when we die. It can feel sinful, nasty, embarrassing, terrifying, pleasant, loving, unifying, and downright like the best thing ever invented. So, why is it so difficult to put it down on paper?

I am the first to admit that I am oblivious to a lot of what is happening on Vocal. There is a lot to keep up with. I did ask to be made to feel warm and fuzzy, but now I feel like I if I am not careful, I will internally and externally combust. Things have certainly heated up on the platform.
Novel AllenPublished 10 months ago in WritersAn Open Letter to the Vocal Community
Dear everyone who has taken the time to read the various pieces of my heart, I feel like I owe an apology to you all. Life has been busy and hard; in some really great ways and some really challenging ways. As a result, I have been incredibly inactive on this platform.

It's funny what you remember about things like your earliest pieces of writing. For instance, I know one of the earliest pieces I ever wrote was a poem. It may not have been my first, but it was one of the most impactful. But the impact didn't come from the writing or the content itself, but from the lessons I would learn from the reaction to it.
Adam PatrickPublished 10 months ago in WritersThe Most Difficult Thing About Writing For Me.
Over the years, I have had more than just a little difficulty with writing. I have preferred to read. I love to read. When I told my brother that is 18 months younger that I had started to write, he said it didn't surprise him as I had quite the imagination when we were young.
Denise E LindquistPublished 10 months ago in WritersHow to Tell Any Story Ever
What if I told you I had the key to telling a great story no matter what? That no matter what characters, plot, and genre, your story would always turn out compelling, entertaining, and relatable? Would you want to know what it is?
Sarah MasseyPublished 10 months ago in WritersThe Story from 8 Years Ago
Eight years ago, I started a story and ghosted it for the next seven. But this time, I'm getting serious. I know I've said it plenty of times before. A thousand times, I'm sure.
Sarah GlassPublished 10 months ago in WritersWhy Every Word Matters
Have you ever thought that writing is useless and perhaps even questioned its significance in the grand scheme of things? But as soon as the thought forms in your mind, you suddenly feel guilty, and this deep sense of shame washes over you. It's as though your heart protests, defending this ancient art. You feel horrible calling yourself a writer, as if you committed an unthinkable sin by thinking negatively about writing. We ponder and often wonder, but why do we attach so much importance to something that, at its core, is just a tool?

The human mind is a powerful force. Perhaps the most powerful force in creation. We can convince ourselves that sugar pills are medicine and heal ourselves via The Placebo Effect using only the power of our mind.
