The Bridges We Meet
I worked as a Registered Nurse for close to thirty years. Over those years, I cannot begin to enumerate or even remember every patient I had. But there are a few that I will never be able to forget. And I don't want their memory to be forgotten either. Even today, I have a smile on my face or a tear in my eye when I think back on them. You see, even though I was the one that was supposed to help them, they are the ones that impacted me, instead.
Shirley BelkPublished 5 months ago in JournalWhen we were young
I barely remember those days, the days when I was young. Yet; was I ever really young? I don't remember walks in the park, trips to the beach, or even visits to the movie theatre.

Who am I? The question remains in my mind. It began after my first child. I had no idea who I was anymore, but I was too young to actually know then either. Then, after that I joined the Army. When I came home after joining the Army, it was rough. My scheduled daily routine no longer existed. It may have only been six months, but it certainly had a mental impact. Barely able to function in normal society anymore, I had to push through.
Oops, I Accidentally Forgot to Write
This always happens. I shell out $50 or whatever on an annual membership to get access to all the cool member’s-only doohickeys and the better rate of pay, only to completely forget about Vocal when things pick up in my personal life. Stuff has been happening, y’all, stuff that I can write about! Guys, I went to Europe! I saw dozens of plays! I’ve kept up to date on One Piece! There are dozens of things I can write about—literal dozens—but do I write about them? Hell, no. That’s not the way old Steve functions, no, sir.

Last week, two days before Thanksgiving, the big box club membership store's parking lot was packed and filled to capacity.
Babs IversonPublished 6 months ago in JournalRipples in Reality
Sometimes I do not know whether my life is a never-ending dream or a heartbreaking reality. On Wednesdays, I feel normal, whatever that normal may be. On Mondays I feel like a villainous imposter sent to destroy everything in my lonely path, yet, come Friday I feel like a beloved victorious hero set to conquer the world for the better, for the good. I feel as if I am both, maybe all, yet equally neither. Some days I feel everything, other days I feel absolutely nothing. Either which when I do, I feel it all entirely and yet, not at all. To remain myself, whomever I may be, I balance delicately between being present, to then dissociating altogether.
Rosie J. SargentPublished 6 months ago in JournalTo The Overflowing Cup
My therapist recommended I try to find a space where I can both empty and fill my cup. Writing used to be it. But that's been tricky lately. I haven’t exactly been wanting to commit things down to paper.
Oneg In The ArcticPublished 6 months ago in JournalLong Island Thanksgiving
He was cute, cocky, and approached me with an irresistible smile. He'd moved to Vermont to get out of New York, specifically Long Island, and I never knew what he actually was studying. I knew he worked in the city auditorium; was it with lights and sound?
Thanksgiving Memories....in abstract
The origin of Thanksgiving as a national holiday is celebrated on various dates in the United States, Canada, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Liberia, and unofficially in countries like Brazil and the Philippines. It is also observed in the Dutch town of Leiden and the Australian territory of Norfolk Island. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of the preceding year (similarly named harvest festival holidays occur throughout the world during autumn, including in Germany and Japan). Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and around the same part of the year in other places. Although Thanksgiving has historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, it has long been celebrated as a secular holiday as well.

Jake is a busy guy. Every time he starts a project or just thinks about starting something, he gets interrupted. Most of the time they’re annoying minor interruptions: phone calls, a knock at the door, text messages from work, the list goes on and on. If only he had a little alone time, he could complete some half-finished projects. No phone calls, texts, or people, for one day. Is that too much to ask? Unfortunately for Jake, his unfinished business list just came due all at the same time.
Mark GagnonPublished 6 months ago in JournalImprove Your Thinking By Stopping
We live in a high-paced world. We often think that we must keep going. No time to slow down. There's too much to get done.

Not too long ago I was booked into a hotel in Manchester which treated the guests as though they should be grateful to be able to stay there. The service left much to be desired, despite their great Citizen's Charter which was paraded everywhere, and I made a mental note, as well as passing the word along, about not staying there in the future.
