Lines in the Flesh

One Gentle Touch

You lay your head on my chest

I run my fingers through your hair

You know it's my favorite thing to do

I feel your body relax and it feels as if you melt into me

I lightly trace my finger along your face

I love the way your skin feels

But your eyes are my favorite

I lightly trace over your eyebrows

As I stare at your rested eyes

Then my gaze travels over the rest of your face

Seemingly memorizing every little feature

Your voice rings out, your eyes still closed

You tell me how fast my heart is racing

But who could blame me?

My mind wanders to thoughts I shouldn't have

Guarded is what I should be

But when you look up at me

I can't help but smile

Those thoughts disappear

All I can see is you.

Beautifully written, Mercedes! It brings a calming imagery that I think we all know and long for... A soothing thing that both puts us entirely at peace, but also makes our heart skip. You captured it beautifully!
