I am grateful that I had the opportunity to experience my children growing up to be kind and loving human beings, that are raising families and work in areas that are making a difference.

I am grateful to have lived long enough to see many of my grandchildren grown and living life. Some with struggles while others appear to be doing well and are raising or starting families of their own.

Then there are my friends, some I have known since high school and still others I have only met recently. I was joking last week about how a couple of my friends will come over to me and brush my hair or push it down where it is sticking up.

In much the same way my sister would say, "Let me braid your hair!" That is the gift of longtime friends - they become sisters.

I am especially grateful for my husband. We have been together for 24 years and we are still committed to each other. This husband may be the till death do us part husband. We laugh together every day, and we enjoy life together. We both love family and we share our recovery.

The first thing that came to mind was "I am woman, hear me roar!" The greatest lesson a woman should learn is to trust the Creator/God to help when she needs help and that means always. Even with the small stuff.

I know the message is God helps those who help themselves and that may be true, however, bringing the Creator/God into my life is the greatest lesson I learned. And in case you are wondering, I am spiritual, not religious.

Then another of the greatest lessons a woman should learn is that we can always learn something from another woman by watching and listening.

I learned to live in the present, to love people, knowing that I don't have to like everyone but to love them. I learned that from a woman. She said, "When in a room with people, look around the room at each person and tell them with your eyes that you love them. It works.

Covid can kill anyone. My brother was only 48 years old. After my sister died from leukemia, at age 53, I let my brothers know that I expected them to take good care of themselves as I am the oldest and I am supposed to die first. I know that isn't up to me, but it doesn't hurt to say that to them.

One day after my brother died, I told my husband that because we have seven children, we could have a child die in our lifetime. He didn't want to think about that. I don't either and I put my children on my prayer list every day after that conversation.

My children, just a few years younger than my brother got covid vaccinations right after his funeral. My daughter and her husband had a will completed and then bothered me about it until we also got a will, naming her and John's youngest daughter our executors.

John said, "So that is who cost us $1,000." And I said, and it was worth it not to have to worry or have our children fighting over anything. Our wishes are in the will and we still have to fill out the form that says who we would like to get what.
