It took some time for me to see it

the way you skillfully erode a thought

You paint a picture of you as a misfit

carefully sneaking into my blind spot

I fell for the illusion you guaranteed

this pretty package you had prepared

The envelope announcing it was me

you wanted, your love, to share

You descend on the weak like a shadow

stole my breath like a nor' easter wind

Tightened your grip till my breath was shallow

and unable, myself, to defend

But I finally, I saw through your deception

found the villain hiding there in plain sight

Called you out, exposing the subreption

stepped out of your darkness and into my light
