Stainless Steel is the most used material in the world for every work that includes metal. Stainless Steel is a combination of various metals altogether at a certain ratio. The ratio of every metal present in Stainless Steel plays a significant role. Chromium which is present the most at 10-11% provides a chrome look to the alloy, Carbon up to 0.3-0.24% leads to the strongness of the metal, Nickel up to 0.025% and Molybdenum up to 2.1-2.4% gives the corrosion resistance property to Stainless Steel. It is a very effective metal for every type of work as it is durable.


The Fasteners are an instrument that is used in complex works mainly to attach and detach machines or big parts. Fasteners come in various types and each fastener is important based on its nature. The fasteners are Nuts, linchpin, R-clip, split pin, spring pin, etc. And further mentioned are the grades of Stainless Steel Fasteners-

The major grades of Stainless Steel are 305 which has Chrome up to 17-19%, Nickel up to 8-10%, Carbon at a maximum of 0.12%; the 18-8 Stainless Steel has 18% Chromium, 8% Nickel, .08% Carbon; then 316 Stainless Steel that has 16-18% of Chromium, 10-14% of Nickel, 0.08% Carbon, 2.00% Molybdenum; 410 Stainless Steel which has the lowest Chromium of 11.5-13.5% and 0.15% of Carbon in it.

Austenitic Stainless Steel

The Austenitic Stainless Steel has Chromium up to 15-20% and Nickel up to 5-19% which makes it the one with the highest degree of corrosion resistance to any circumstance. The tensile strength of this grade ranges from 80,000 PSI- to 150,000 PSI. The series 300 of stainless steel like 302, 303, 304, 304L, 316, 32, 347, and 348 are included in Austenitic SS.

Martensitic Stainless Steel

It is determined by its Tensile strength of 180,000 PSI- 250, 000 PSI which is due to chromium ranging from 12-18%. This type of steel is ideal for heat treatment for raising its strength and hardness however recommended needs to be avoided. It is included in series 400 of stainless steel like 410, 416, 420, and 431.

Ferritic Stainless Steel

The Ferritic Stainless Steel is strongly not recommended for heat treatment and even though it is corrosion resistant it is advised not to keep it for a longer time in areas prone to corrosion. The chromium content here is 15-18% and has a tensile strength of 65,000-87,000 PSI. Now the grades that are ferritic are SS 430 and SS 430F.

Stainless Steel Fasteners are used a lot in a lot of industries and sectors. Big and complex machines are mainly attached together due to fasteners. The tensile strength of the fasteners depends on the material which is used in manufacturing. For keeping together parts of ships and planes the strongest fasteners are required.

18-8 Stainless Steel

300 series stainless steel is referred to as 18-8 stainless steel. The most typically cited grades, 303 and 304 stainless, are the standard grades for stainless fasteners. They are corrosion-proof and long-lasting. They are commonly utilized in freshwater marine applications, although they will not perform as well in a saltwater environment as 316 stainless steel. Although stainless steel resists oxidation and rusting, it can tarnish with time. A2 Stainless Steel is the metric equivalent.

316 Stainless Steel

This steel type is utilized and recommended for applications that need extreme, harsh, or maritime conditions. Because it has a higher corrosion resistance than 18-8 stainless steel, we advocate utilizing 316 stainless steel fasteners in salt-water applications. It's crucial to remember that even the salt in the air near a body of salt water can harm dry applications, thus 316 is the preferred material. 316 stainless fasteners are commonly used on boats, docks, piers, and swimming pools.
