Tata's Upcoming SUV: Tata Harrier

Tata Motors have recently come out with some interesting products. They have improved the quality of their product and have come up with new designs. At the Geneva Motor Show early this year, Tata made an announcement that they will completely revamp their vehicle lineup by 2023.

Tata Motors has showcased the H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo, which was a breathtaking SUV. Now they have come out with the image of the production version of the SUV based on H5X . It is named the Tata Harrier. As promised by the designers, the Harrier has carried over most of the design cues from the concept car.

The first thing that warrants attention is the aggressive front end of the car. It comes with a strip of LED light placed higher up the bonnet. Interestingly, the headlight is placed below that. Tata calls its new design style Impact Design 2.0, and Harrier will be the first model to follow this design. The main design highlight is the new grill design and the LED light placed above the headlamp. Like the Nexon, Harrier also follows a low-slung sporty cabinet design instead of an upright one. The larger wheel arch which is also a part of the new design philosophy, and gives the car an aggressive look. Cladding at the base of the door and the new petal-shaped tail lights, which are connected with a black element, makes the rear of the car impressive.

Although the images of the interior of Harrier is not officially out, the car was spotted during testing at different places around India, and some of the spy images were let out. From the spy images, the interior is impressive and has a new design as well. It has a push-button start, steering mounted controls and a large touchscreen infotainment system. Also, Tata has said that the interior, which follows its Impact Design 2.0, will be practical and high quality.

The most interesting fact about Harrier is that this car was designed alongside the Land Rover. It is based on their new platform called OmegaArc. This platform is expected to take the Tata SUV’s to the next level. With Land Rover incorporated in the design, the car is expected to have the driving dynamics of Land Rover. Also, Harrier shares similar floorpan and steering gears, as well as an all independent suspension, similar to the Land Rovers’.

Tata is coming up with many teasers before the launch of the car. Tata Motors has said that the car was subjected to a 2.2 million km test on the toughest terrains, and also tested it at Kari Motor Speedway and the NATRAX test facility.

The Harrier will come with a 2.0 four-cylinder engine derived from Fiat, which is also used in the Jeep Compass. The engine produces 140 bhp. It will come with multiple driving modes. Harrier will be a five-seater and will later be followed by a seven-seater sibling, which is expected to be launched by the end of 2019. The seven-seater will use the same engine, but will be re-tuned to make around 170 bhp.

According to the information from the dealers, the Harrier will be priced between 16-21 lakh. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Renault Capture and another upcoming car from Kia Motors. The car will be launched by January 2019. It will first come with a six-speed manual transmission and, later on, they will introduce an automatic, along with a seven-seater version. Booking for the car has already commenced—interested buyers can book the car at the dealership or online for Rs30000.
