Most people think that a bucket list is just a collection of things they want to do when they have the time, but this isn’t true. The truth is that you can make as many bucket lists as you want. It could be a travel bucket list if you’ve always wanted to travel the world. While it contains the list of places you want to visit, it also inspires and motivates and keeps you on track. So, if you are a want-to-be-globetrotter, this guide is for you!

Brainstorming

First, you need to ask yourself these questions:

  • What kind of adventure do you want?
  • Why would you want to travel?
  • Where can you find inspiration?
  • What kind of accommodation would you like?

Answering these questions will get you right on track. The answers will tell you exactly what you want and whether or not you are someone who wants the likes of PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney for your holiday.

Also, your bucket list should be realistic. If your travel plans are going to cost you more than what you can financially allow yourself, you need to rethink your plan. It doesn’t matter whether you want to stay at a Sydney Darling Harbour hotel when you travel to Australia or simply want to stay at a hostel when touring Thailand; all your ideas and aspirations should come together to create a realistic travel goal. But of course, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming big!

What kind of adventure do you want?

To answer this question, you need to look at your past travel habits. What kind of destinations did you travel to? Did you trek through a tropical jungle? Did you relax on a sandy beach and let sunrays wash over you? Or are you the type to hike the alps? Ask yourself these questions, and you’d know exactly what kind of holiday you want.

Why would you want to travel?

This sounds like a silly question, but it’s not; it’s a valid question. What would inspire you to travel to another country? What would you hope to achieve? Now, this point is related to the previous point, but it’s worth looking at separately.

  • Do you want to discover new cultures and new people?
  • Do you want to solo travel and discover yourself?
  • Is it about food?
  • Is it for shopping?

Ask yourself these questions and figure out a destination that can offer you what you want.

Where to find inspiration

There are loads of platforms on the internet that offer inspiration for travellers. It can also be social media. There are travel groups where the members discuss their travel plans and sometimes upload pictures of their previous travels. There are plenty of YouTube videos about travel, and there are articles like this one and also ones that are specifically focused on destinations.

Just google ‘must-visit countries’ and you’ll get a chockful of results.

Travel bucket list

Now that you know what you are looking for, it’s time to start creating your travel bucket list. There are several ways you can do this:

  • Make a list of places you can visit for the year
  • Make a list of places you want to visit during your 20s, 30s or once you’ve retired
  • You can also make lists according to the season
  • It can also focus on the destinations you’ve always wanted to visit

How do you actually create the list? What’s the best way?

You can sit down and write down all the places you want to visit on a piece of paper; you can also do this on your computer or in your journal.

You’ll also find different kinds of digital maps on the internet that allow you to earmark the places you want to go.
