A Series to Help with Night's Out

Ladies,

It’s the weekend and it is time to put your best look forward, get your drink on, and just have a great weekend out with the girls and maybe find a guy for the night. We say go for it! Kill the look, rock the makeup but do it smart. By smart, we do not mean watch what you drink, cause trust us drinking is not the main issue we see at the bar (though still drink responsibly and know your limits). Honey, this series is about how to look good and not regret the shoes you wore the next day, or look at your bank account and think well shit I didn’t know I spent that much. This series is going to help prepare you in the best ways we know to have a great night out, only spending $40, not waiting in line outside the bars, or pay cover, and to wake up the next morning with no regret of a hangover or of spending way too much money; yet still have some of the best nights of your life with your friends.

The Prep

The main thing that everyone does not consider to be important when thinking about going out is the prep work beforehand. We are not talking about what to wear no, we are talking about eating beforehand, ensuring you have the money to go out, and have a game planning on where you are going because the determines the outfit.

Eating beforehand may not seem to be a big idea but it really is. This is what will make or break your night. Too many times we see girls that are waayy to drunk way too early, usually after a couple of drinks, and they just wanna sit. This is classic “did not eat beforehand” symptoms. This does not always mean stuff your face, but it means prepare beforehand with what you are eating to work for the night out. Make your diet during the day involve some carbs, this way your body will be able to handle all the alcohol you plan on drinking. Also, as weird as it may seem but on those days try to eat healthy as well. We have found that we handle our alcohol a lot better when we eat properly during the day, and not just eat fast food all the time. For example, before a typical night out we would eat: something for breakfast (usually oatmeal and berries), lunch would consist of meat, veggies and some sort of carb, dinner would be mainly carbs and protein. Our fav dinner dish is using ground beef, usually some mushrooms and red onion, and the cheddar chipotle sidekick, make a nice meal out of that and you are set for the night! What eating does is allow for you to simply put, not die after an hour out because all you have in your system is alcohol.

Also, it allows for you to extend your night out because you are not starving at 12pm or you are not falling over drunk and your friends are saying that they are taking you home since they don’t wanna take care of you. Everyone should eat before going out. It is just a smarter way to take care of yourself, and your liver. Doing this will help you in the long run for that night as well as the next day when you go out.

In all honesty, who doesn’t want an excuse to eat more for it to help you?

Next big thing we want to talk about is money. Hun, we do not care what other people tell you, when it comes to money there are 2 things you just don’t do! DO NOT take money out at the ATM, we know its right there and its convenient but what you don’t realize is that it takes an extra $3-5 out of your account. You know what that extra money could get you? Either an extra drink or pay for cover another night. It may not seem like big deal but let’s do the math, if you realistically go out 2 nights a week for, lets say, 2 months. That is 16 times that you will be going out. Having to take out money both nights for that timeframe and every time you do the ATM takes $3-5 that’s a total of $48-80 wasted on stupid fees. That is another night out or maybe even 2 that you have wasted! So as convenient as it is, it is not worth losing the money on something so stupid.

Another big no is using your debit card or a credit card at the bar. The amount of frustration this causes on all parties is HUGE. 1. You, do you really want to have to pull out your debit card every single time you wanna buy a drink? No cause who wants to have to go through all the steps to get a drink, the total, inserting the card cause bars don’t do tap, selecting the right account, and then enter in your pin if you can remember it with how drunk you are. 2. The bartender. You wanting to use your debit cards means two sure things for them, they lose money getting the terminal for you cause it takes up more time and does not allow for them to serve other customers, and they will not be getting a tip cause who tips at a bar when using debit, NO ONE. 3. Your fellow drinkers. Let’s think about this one. You ask for the debit terminal which takes more time for the bartender than if you’d of paid with cash. What this means is that it takes even more time for others to get their drinks, making others wait longer and that just really sucks for everyone. Longer it takes for drinks, the more annoyed the drinkers get the less likely they will leave a tip, then the bartender gets annoyed and doesn’t serve as sufficiently. It is a never ending cycle! So please just don’t do it!

Now, many of you are probably saying, well then what can I do for money? It is very simple, go to the bank beforehand and take out money. Do not give us the “We don’t have enough time excuse”. There is always time. Namely cause we know you decide to go out on like Wednesday or Thursday so ya good try. Also, 9/10 there is a bank downtown that you can go to so you can get your money. All this means is that you may get to the bar 5mins later than planned which, let’s be real, isn’t a big deal because you can get ahead of the line anyways being a pretty girl. Or crazy thought, you catch the earlier bus and have time to get to the bank and then get to the bar when you want. It is not that unrealistic of an idea to leave early to get money. If you are worried that you won’t be able to drink enough before going to the bar then feel free to have a drink with dinner, take a roadie with you, or stay tuned to the chapter on drinking where we will give you the tips on how to get drunk for less. But in all honesty, getting money is one of the easiest things for you to do in the prep stage of getting ready for a night out.

Finally, we are going to talk about the important part of planning, where are you going? This is important because figuring out where you want to go is the most important piece of prep work to do because it affects everything besides what you should eat. Ladies, we are going to briefly talk about outfits. Not what to wear and what not to wear cause that will be covered later one but how to prepare yourself so you are not doing the classic last minute freak out trying to decide what you are going to wear. First off just breathe and think, where are you going to be going, what is that bar like. If it is your first night out ever or the first night out of the year, then feel free to get dressed up but other than that think smart. First you need to know which bar you are going to. Is it a bar or a club cause that alone will determine what you are going to wear, or at least narrow down the choices. Also, you are going to want to discuss with your friends that you are going out with, what they are going to wear. Why you may ask? There are 2 main reasons. 1. So that you both don’t end up basically wearing the same thing out to the bar, because who really wants that. 2. If they are getting extra done up then you can as well or vice versa, so this way you are not the odd one out of the group looking either way under or way over dressed. Again, who wants that? Also, by figuring out which bar you are going to you can also have a better idea of how much money you will be spending so how much money you need to take out.

Ladies, the prep work that goes into the night is just as the night itself. Throughout our years of going out we realized that the nights where we actually had a plan in regards to the prep work always were the best nights out because we were ready for a great night! The best part is, that though it may seem like a lot of work beforehand, once you have done it a couple of times it will come to be second nature and will just seem like the easiest thing for you to do.
