Super Bowl betting guide
Best prop bets, game predictions, and more!
The pinnacle of American sports. A historic day for sports gambling. It's finally here. Let's take a look at some of the best bets for Sunday's big game.
MVP
The bet:
If the Patriots win: Tom Brady +140
If the Rams win: Aaron Donald +1800
The two best players in this game, it's only right that they are the picks for MVP. Tom is an obvious choice as he has won MVP in half of his Super Bowl appearances. He even won it over James White in 2016, despite White giving one of the best Super Bowl performances I've ever seen. If the Patriots win, Tom is winning too.
For the Rams to win this game, Aaron Donald is going to have to dominate. Its certainly not easy to throw Tom Brady off his game, but the way to do it is with pressure up the middle. Brady's passer rating dipped to 63.1 this season when facing interior pressure and Donald just so happened to have led the league in sacks this season from the defensive tackle position.
First Touchdown
The Bet: Sony Michel +500
After watching his former Georgia teammate Todd Gurley have the more successful regular season, Sony Michel has dominated the postseason while Gurley has floundered. Michel has 242 yards and five touchdowns in just two games. I expect the Patriots to score first and Michel to continue his party in the endzone.
Alternate Line
The Bet: Pats -7.5 +210
The Patriots are currently sitting as three-point favorites over the Rams, but I believe they are going to win by about two scores. In the matchup of Belichick and McVay, the greatest of all time and the new guy in town, I expect McVay and the Rams to be completely overmatched. In yet another year dominated by stories of the Patriots' demise, the Pats look motivated as ever, especially after last years Super Bowl. The Patriots will continue to show everyone they're still here.
Patriots team total and first team to 30 points
The bets: Patriots over 30 points -110
first team to score 30: Patriots +145
The Patriots offense has been operating at maximum power during their playoff run, and they are facing a Rams defense that has had its struggles throughout the season. The Rams allowed 24 points per game in the regular season and should have a lot of trouble stopping a Patriots offense that is averaging 39 points per game in the postseason. The Patriots will score over 30 and be the only team to score 30+ in this game.
Will a 2 point conversion be attempted?
The bet: yes -120
There has been a two-point conversion attempt in eight of the last nine Super Bowls. We live in the analytics age of football, in which teams go for two all the time. The Rams are at the forefront of this movement, going for two the 5th most times in the NFL this year. The Patriots, however, have attempted the least amount of two-point tries this season and don't expect that to change on Sunday. This bet is a little risky considering how infrequently the Patriots go for two, but I believe that the Rams will go for two at some point late in the game when they are down a few scores.
National Anthem length
The bet: over 1 minute and 49 seconds -190
Everyone's favorite bet of the night, where the people at your Super Bowl party think you are a lunatic because you pull your phone out to time the National Anthem. To bet anything but the over here is simply un-American. Only two of the last 15 anthems have gone under 1 minute and 49 seconds and FiveThirtyEight projects Knight's rendition to last about 120 seconds, putting it well over. Take the over.
